View Full Version : SNES Lagoon strange cart

A few months ago I found this odd looking Lagoon cart among a bunch of other beat up SNES games and picked it up for $6. I opened it up and unfortunately it's just a regular retail PCB, that looked rather worn as well, like it had been sitting out in the open.

The cart casing has me wondering, though. I've never seen one like it before, whether it be unlicensed game, boot, cleaning kit shell, or other. It has a 4-screw design and lacks the grooves and other features of a typical SFC cart. The notches on the back look like they were drilled by hand with a dremel tool afterwards to use the cart in a US system.

Anyway, I thought it was worth sharing, and maybe someone has info on it?

Sony was making their own hardware for the SNES (ie the S-DSP chip and the SNES CD), so it doesn't surprise me that they would have their own cart shells. Lagoon was pretty close to being a launch game, so it is possible they had some leftover prototype cases. Though I certainly wouldn't conclude that this is actually a prototype case, as we have no way of confirming that.

Zoom created the X68000 original, and Kemco published the port.
I'd guess a Sony label (maybe from a VHS tape or something) was the first thing they found.

They're talking about the physical cartridge casing, not label artwork (Of which I see none on this which makes your reply even more confusing) like your post seems to be talking about.

doesnt look like that cart has the groove/indentation of where a super famicom label would go.

Honestly, it looks like someone just mutilated the cart so that it'd fit into a US SNES. No knowledge/patience on how to just mod the system.
