My local Blockbusters suck now. They price stuff "cheaper" than they are supposed too and then a few of the employees buy all the stuff and use the 20% extra discount.
I did pick up
x-Box Buff the Vampire Slayer $10
PS2 Dark Angel $10
GC Metroid Prime $10

I agree all the Blockbusters around me do the same thing, these kids that work there must grab up all the good stuff, because everytime I go in there there are just games with out original cases, or extremely old common games. In fact, I havent purchased a game from blockbuster in the longest time, they have dissapointed me, including the recent N64 sell off...

I don't buy games from Blockbuster (anymore) for one simple reason: Those damned security tags they put on there. They pretty much ruin the value of the game, plus it's been rumored that the metal piece on one side can throw the ps2's disc spinner out of whack. It's worth it to me just to pay whatever the difference is between blockbuster and my local game store and get a game I know is complete and hasn't been fondled by grubby-handed 10 year old hands.

Two things: First, you can't simply price something cheaper at Blockbuster unless you're the store manager - the prices are built right into the bar code in the computer system, so the only way to cheat the system is to steal the game; it's not like Goodwill. Second, policy now is to not use the security stickers on the disc and to keep all manuals and boxes. If you're store doesn't, call the District Manager and find out why - it's company policy that they have to keep that stuff. And the prices are usually decent.
About the "10 year old's grubby hands", I agree that this is the main problem. Even at Buy 2 Get 1 Free with my 20% discount and already good prices, I would never buy a game (or DVD) in as shitty of shape as most of the ex-rental stuff is. My job (on Mondays, in fact, so I just finished doing this) is to shift the rental stuff to "for sale" stuff, and I have no idea how people get these games into such bad shape.

Well, we have 2 blockbusters in green bay, 15 minutes apart. I picked up PS2 legends of wrestlin Ii for $10 at the east side one and at the west side one they had a copy for $34.99....Also Dvd's are always priced different at both stores. Starfox andventure and Mario Sunshine are $29.99 at one store and $19.99 at the other.
kevincure, not to pick on you, but you did bring it up. I mean no offense, I'm just saying what I know. I have bought lots of games and usually every 5 or 6 games rings up differently than what is on the sticker. So whoever rings my up just does an adjustment for whatever the amount is and keeps on ringing them up. Biggest price difference was a game marked $34.99 and rang up $19.99 also some N64 games were marked $14.99 and rang up as $6.99.
I used to get good 64 games about 6-8 months ago, but then the employees at the east store put them out for $2.99 and buy them all.

Yo, no worries, I'm just saying what I know based on how Blockbuster is run here (where I work). Just like at any store, the employees are supposed to change the prices when they get the new pricing in from HQ - except for rare changes by a Store Manager, the prices should be the same in Buffalo or San Diego. Seriously - it's all figured out by computer at the BB HQ. If you see something like this again, you really should call and see what's up - they'll probably send you free game rentals at the very least :-).

This is true for cd-rom based games. But carts are different. They can be cleaned, and I have found quite a few with no tags/stickers at all. It's a chance game with them, as they don't let you open their re-shrinkwrapped titles in-store, but you may come out ahead. I paid $7.99 for a collectors edition N64 Majora, and there were no tags or stickers, and it was complete with manual.
My Blockbuster has stopped putting the labels on CD games. I don't know if it's because they got too many complaints, are too lazy, or what, but all the better for me :) I got a few N64 games from there a week or two ago, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf and StarCraft 64 all for $10 each with their boxes but no instructions.

kevincure...Project Store PRP transfer god :)
Seeing the pricing in Green Bay, it looks like someone can't read the screen correctly. Mario Sunshine and Starfox are $29.99 NEW and $19.99 used. It also sounds like one of the stores is not doing their repricing weekly. If something rings up for a lower price than the tag, the store should sell it to you for that price, they should not adjust the price upwards. It may affect which game is the free one with the buy 2, get 1 free sale because you get the lowest priced item free.
The disc shields were put out of use over a year ago, so any game that's older than that will probably have a shield on it. We were told to stop putting shields on because they weren't cheap and the labor spent wasn't worth the amount of lost product.
At my store, we include the manuals with the rental games; if they don't come back then we don't have them. It's too much trouble to comment each account at rental, then look up every returned game to see if they got the manual or not, then call the customer to get the manual back (times 200+ game rents a week), then argue with them that they did receive it, etc. We probably lose 40% of the manuals. With disc product, just ask someone to open it up and check it out before you buy.
