I can take a commission or two however not keen to due to the sheer amount of work involved, hence i'm looking at £700 to make one (about $1050); also i'm a hobbyist not a business; so happy to do a commission here and there but not in any volume! Sounds a lot I know, but it takes about 100 hours to make one over many weeks, taking parts out of the equation, it's only a few bucks an hour for time/skill - I earn double that in my regular job!
If you want to make one yourself you can with my guides, and can make one for under £100 easily, as long as you have the tools needed. You get a great feeling of achievement too! If you want to make your own system, i'm very happy to offer help and advice if you need it.

It looks very professional! Are you the same guy on the Benheck forums? Oh, btw, my favorite is your portable turbografx. What an underrated gaming system.

Hey! Cool protable bacteria! It's really awesome. I love your work. But you are pretty expensive. I make good portables like that one for $50! if you want me to make one send me a PM and I'll make you one!

$1050?!? Sorry Bacteria but that's a rip off. I know you claim its because of the "labor" required, but both Hailrazer and Shockslayer offer much cheaper prices with a better quality result.

It looks awful. I've seen better ones on youtube. Too bright red, that would distract most people. Controls look awfully placed too. And you want HOW MUCH for this?
Sorry, but I'd be surprised if you got more than $5 and a paperclip for that peice of junk. Try harder, and it's really sad to say that you put 100 hours into this.

I think it's good.

I sell em for $5.
I find that highly doubtful considering thats less than the cost of an N64 itself.

Looks like great work to me. 3 Hrs battery life that is pretty impressive as well, much better than say my netbook, or ipod touch. Regardless of the price and look, which some seem to have a problem with, I give you much credit as I could never come close to producing a working portable anything and wish I could have some of your skills. Keep up the fantastic work.

Bac, great work. Just ignore all the idiots that just registered on DP today to thread-crap.

No you don't. You can't even get a third of the needed parts for $50.
And why the hell would he want you to make him one?

So, you've seen handhelds in person from all three of these modders, and you're in a position to speak of the quality? Didn't think so. STFU.

And you've seen Bacteria's handheld in person? Your point is moot. I have however researched the topic throughly the past year and have seen multiple pictures and videos from each modder on multiple portables. The truth is, although this portable might look amazing to the general public, if you actively do some research you would see that the price Bacteria charges for something like this is in no way justifiable, especially when you consider the quality of this device compared to others. Look through the huge backlog of portables in the benheck forums by the people I mentioned and look at their commission prices. Do a little research before you tell someone to "STFU".

You're right, I haven't seen it. I don't know Bac personally, never met him, and have had minimal communication w/him here and on a few other boards.
I'm also didn't join a message board today with the specific intentions of bashing someone. And don't deny it, your post history exposed you already.
I spent a few years on the BenHeck forums, though I have pretty much no modding skills. I do know that the N64 is one of the more challenging units to mod (aside from the current gen stuff, of course) since they break if you even look at them funny (confirmed by several BH'ers and actually by Ben himself). And you can't discount the painstaking amount of sanding/bondo work that went into the handheld being discussed in this thread.
Also, quote from Bac:
"i'm a hobbyist not a business"
I'm not trying to justify his price. If this is his first N64, of course it took him a long time to put together. Maybe his next one will only take half as long. Do you have any portables under your belt? If not, who are you to say how fast someone should be able to do this type of mod, or what they feel their time is worth? Awhile back Ben himself got aggravated with people requesting this-or-that and threw out some ridiculous numbers (I think $10K for a portable 360 or PS3) and nobody bashed him for it. Ever think that maybe Bac doesn't feel like making another one (remember THIS one isn't for sale) so he's posting a 'higher than usual' price, without caring whether or not anyone bites?
And why did this thread bring out a bunch of new users with <5 posts under their belts? i'm not checking anyone else's history (too lazy) but really? Do you and your pals have anything worthwhile to contribute here, or do you just get your rocks off by telling a person that someone else can do a better job? Or maybe there's some sort of vendetta here that should stay on BH instead of polluting DP also? If so, hopefully y'all aren't sticking around for long.
"I suppose you're ready to share some photos of your work? "
If you only knew....
Oh, hi. Looks like you registered just to bash also? Sorry, don't know and don't care. You're just another 'visitor' from BH on a mission. Yawn.
I'm sorry I wasted my time here. Seeing that this thread went up only 24h ago and all three of you posted today within a 30-minute period, the intent is obvious. I'm actually kind of ashamed of my troll-detecting skills. I'm done here.
Cheers.

I am deeply sorry and very apologetic for creating an account just to make this post, but the above poster is 100% correct except for one detail:
BenHeck forums has nothing to do with the above tomfoolery - it is of a different source that will not be named here. I do not want unnecessary hate going towards the BenHeck forums when it is not involved.
On a lighter note, the portable looks fantastic, bacteria. I can't get over how comfortable it looks  I followed all of the video logs, and am very grateful that you made them; they were very interesting and informative to watch!

Impressive system. The dongle that connects to the bottom of the system is a neat idea. I think I would have had the volume on the main system though.

Wait, so your avatar is Batman and you're Bacteria... Bac-man? Sorry for the bad joke, lol.
I think it's done nicely. People with 5 posts or less should hold off on the nasty comments. I won't tell them to STFU, but I do think they should establish themselves before they say such harsh and downright mean comments. Don't like his work? Fine, tell him in the proper way on how to improve it, rather than "It looks awful."

Wow, there's a lot of assholery in this thread.
The portable looks great. Super clean and very professional. What I found most impressive was the multi-port with the removable adjustment piece. That's a fantastic idea.
As for the argument for what the portable is worth, he specifically stated that he wasn't really looking to sell.
I would love to see the POS someone could put together for $50.

I left two main forums because they didn't know how to treat people with respect and a lot of the members there were unruly children who behaved in a bad way; unfortunately, they seem to not only bring some of their crap to this thread but haven't even got the decency to use their own names in doing so. I don't expect more from them, so nothing lost.
They also not only don't make allowances for someone with a mild mental disorder, as I have, but actively poke fun at it. Anyway, end of rant!
My view regards commissions, is sure £700 is a lot of money however it is worth it for what you get. If people just bought things for price then everyone would drive Lada cars and mopeds. Yes, if people want to buy cheaper systems they can, one such person sells for around $450 I believe, however the screen holes are cut badly, little sanding work, thick systems, electrical buttons not proper buttons and hot glue all over the place - you get what you pay for.
Interestingly enough, the same people who critizise the likes of me for saying i'll do the odd commission or sell stuff if asked, are the same people who take them on themselves and hawk their wares like their life depended on it. Very hypercritical.
My hobby is console modding, and over time my aim is to have the definitive website on the net for such information - will take a couple of years, but will get there. All free information and guides, i'm not doing this hobby to make money, far from it - the hobby so far has probably cost me over £2000 in real terms, maybe up to £2500.
My view is that I would rather do different projects or ones with a twist, rather than chugging out lots of N64 portables or whatever - that for me would not be fun and I genuinely don't need the money; hence a price to make it worth my while but not fussed if not take up on it. I recently took on a minor project for free for someone as they needed help and were active in my forum. Hey, even my guides are free for anyone to use and benefit from!
If someone wants to commission me to make a portable and invest the time needed to do so, out of the £700 includes tracked postage (within reason, might need to add some on top), and parts; so only a few quid an hour which is cheap - if someone wants my time it is only right they pay - £5 ish an hour is better than Ben charges ($100 an hour, as he advertised fairly recently) - yet he isn't slated for being mega expensive?
Thanks to everyone else's comments here, appreciated. Unfortunately there are bitter people out there who don't know how to behave, hey, "itz da internetz" as they say (they can't normally even compose sentences either sometimes). Why should they be surprised I left their forums in disgust and made sure they knew why??
To them, I let the figures speak for themselves, perhaps then they will have a reality check and grow up even a little bit:
* My iNto64 portable has appeared so far on 68 sites (excluding forums), including a couple of the biggest ones.
* My website has had 58,000 hits in the last months, 10,300 hits in the last 3 days to date.
* My YouTube video, at this point in time has had over 22,300 hits since launch 2 days ago. That is very high these days for a handheld portable.
* My forum has 52 members, all solid people, about a dozen are active. The forum is getting more popular too, as content increases, hopefully will stay as such.
* My forum has had 9631 page loads this month and 1594 unique visitors with 485 returning visitors, so clearly must be "popular", if small. Any bad behaviour there will result in bans, the forum is designed to be a nice place to be in, and I have had several comments that it is, which is great.
* I help everyone I can with advice to the best of my ability and provide all my information entirely for free. Like I said, this is my hobby, not kiddie politics - anyone who likes console modding please join my forum, be active, enjoy yourself and if you need help and advice, where ever possible you'll get it. I do my best to help others.
No, not "advertising" BTW, just putting things into perspective!

Well, besides the one or two newbies(who were probably the same person), everyone here at DP really likes it. Stick around bacteria, as you can see above we are a good group of gamers who appreciate talent like yours. The bad apples are quickly removed as you can see.
Again, you have a lot of talent, GREAT JOB!

One thing I don't get though is the name, how did you come up with it?

I made a decision a while back to call my portables "Into" from then onwards, certainly for normal portable systems. So, using "Into", it was easy to make it called "iNto64" to represent the N64 aspect.
Please, if you have an interest in this, have a go, it's a great hobby!
