went and picked up my Gameboy Player today, as well as Metroid Fusion. Since i don't own a Gameboy Advance, this little device is quite welcome... i'm loving Metroid Fusion so far.

the player doesn't fill the screen (unless you set it to, and it loses just a bit of resolution in doing so), but it looks REALLY nice. Can't wait to get more games... i've got my eye on wario ware now...

I was looking forward to the Player until the SP came out. Now I can play GBA and watch Diff'rent Strokes.

Here's a little tip to save a few bucks.

Order it from EBworld.com and enter coupon code GCPLAYER and you get free shipping, so the total on the item is $49.99 (there's no tax when you buy online). You might be able to find the unit cheaper elsewhere but this seems like the best deal 'o the moment to me :)

Thanks for the tip. You have any idea how long that promo lasts?

That also helps out for the lazy people like me. :)

Some retailers are selling the Gamecube with a GC Player for $149.95 for a limited time. That is really the best deal, that is if you don't have a Gamecube.

Sweetness. I'll have to check that out.

Dang, that would make this the first current gen console I've bought since...the N64.

I finally chased one down today at EBGames.

Pretty damned nifty device. It's really handy for those games that 2 players can play on one GBA by taking turns (Advance Wars) .

I never considered the mono sound that it would produce - sounds like I'm back in the NES days hooked up through a RF. I've apparently become spoiled on the surround sound that games come with today.

Other than that unavoidable fault, I have no complaints.

I was thinking of getting a GameCube Q until I realized that the GameCube Player (thought it was out already, actually) let me do something that the GCQ can't...or am I wrong? I don't think the GBP would fit on that thing very nicely.

I think I heard somewhere that the Q got a special GBP in Japan. Anyone else hear that?

Anyway they seem really neat. I loved my SuperGameboy, it was really something to me at the time. This is no different.

Can't wait until I can afford one.

I got mine today. I guess for only $50 the player doesn't warrant getting its own box?? Cheap plastic containers.

Oh well in a way I feel like I just bought a new version of the SNES.

I decided to get one today. So I headed out to Toys R Us. In the mall where TRU is, there's a Gamestop so I checked them out first. I asked if the Gameboy Player was in stock. The clerk asked me if I had one on reserve. I told him no. He told me they didn't have any in stock.

Next stop was Toys R Us. They didn't have any to be had.

Next I decided to go to Target. Although there is a Target near my home, I went to a different one that was close to the Toys R Us I was at. At Target. it turned out that they had it behind the showcase. Some kid was asking the clerk what it was. Then some guy standing there said he wanted one and I said I wanted one also. Unfortunately there was only one left and the guy in front of me got it first!

I asked the clerk to call the Target closer to my home. He told me that the EBGames that was in the same shopping center as Target had them but I told him that I refuse to shop at EBGames. He called the Target near my house and sure enough they had three in stock. I rushed over there and finally bought it (I should have gone there first - it was the same place that I cought my Gameboy Advance SP on the day they came out).

I still haven't had a chance to hook the thing up yet!

I'm right on it, chief! I haven't seen any for sale but I'll have somebody look around a bit.

That would be very cool :D

A question...You're all familiar with the Link Bonus for Metroid Prime (the extra game,) right? Could one do the link with Metroid Fusion in the GB Player?

Might as well make this a separate post :P

From the main page for the GameBoy Player, does anybody find the text next to this image pretty strange?

http://www.nintendo.com/systems/gcn/images/gbp_multi.gif

...Think of your Game Boy Player as "just another Game Boy" and you'll understand how it works.

Heh! I do wish I had a setup like that, though.

Just out of curiousty, rolenta, why do you snub EB?

I do ALL my game shopping there, including my Game Boy Player.

Nice little device, BTW -- worthwhile investment.

Hi Leonard,I just read your post about why you dont like EB games. They are a bunch of MOMOS for not hiring you.Trust me if you lived in Colorado and came into the "Gamestop" where I work I gurantee you would walk out with a job that same day.I would do everything in my power to get you hired. If a Gamestop where you live is hiring and you still want to try and get a job at a video game store, you could give me there number and I will make sure they get you some kind of position in the company. That makes me very mad EB games disrespected you like that. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( .I love your book and you are a LEGEND to me.Also I watched the Atari episode of Icons on G4tv and I love it,it was so fantastic seeing you on T.V.Like I said if you want a job with Gamestop I will do everything in my power to make sure you get that job,no matter what state you live in. :D :-D :D :-D :D

I hear in AW2 my girl Sami's special power involves capturing cities and stuff in one turn.

Prepare for the ultimate in base capturing if thats the case >)

I think Zach is right in his response to you. Still, kinda sad you would boycott the ENTIRE chain when it was only ONE store that snubbed you. Besides, someone of your experience should be manager of SEVERAL places. :D

I like my local EB. They are friendly, know me by name, call me promptly and always when new games come in, point out other games in the store that I might like (and right most of the time), and have good rates.

Of course, I never SELL them anything -- I get much higher and better prices selling them on Amazon. :-D

Does this thing accept flash carts? If not count me out.

Actually, it was the district that snubbed since it was the district manager who wouldn't hire me (without even interviewing me), And in a way the chain did snub me by not responding to my letter that I sent.

Besides, the store that the guy in Target was going to send me to WAS the one that snubbed me!

Thanks for your offer and for your kind words. Actually, I got a job yesterday, which is why I was sort of celebrating and bought the GB Player. This job pays twice what EBGames would have paid (of course still nowhere near what I used to make) and the hours are totally flexible and no nights or weekends! That leaves me time to do the important things like work on my books, attend conventions like CGE,, and, oh yeah, be with my kids.

No Way...NO WAY. Mono? WTF? The GBA puts out stereo throught the headphone jack. Won't someone tell me that jaybird was smoking some bad juju? I would be sorely disappointed if the GBP only puts out mono sound!

Maybe my ears are lying to me, or it was that juju I'm hitting. :embarrassed:

It sure sounds like the same signal coming out of all my speakers. I'll do some in-depth tests to confirm rather than relying on my faulty hearing.

I found this on another site:

"As expected, the Game Boy Player supports stereo sound, enabling you to hear some SNES-quality music and sound effects clearly through regular TV speakers as opposed to the Game Boy Advance's relatively weak single speaker."

It's not direct from Nintendo, but it does proove my hearing to be faulty. :)
