I'm sorry if this topic is irrelevant or anything so you forum mods can delete it or whatever.

Anyway, I hate these little bastards. Its not that the NES is rare or anything, but it disappoints me that kids these days think a console sucks if it doesn't have Halo or some generic FPS. The NES is classic, and imo, the best game system ever. Kids at school think I'm some nerd because I actually ENJOY QUALITY GAMES THAT FOCUS ON GAMEPLAY INSTEAD OF GRAPHICS. (lol, how dare I) NES forever!

They also smash a SNES and Atari 2600. Makes me sick. However, some idiots in the comments say things like "OMG NES itz wort 300$!" As much as I hate this video, no NES is worth 300 bucks unless its a kiosk demo unit.

When I was Younger i had to watch my Mother destroy my Toaster NES because me and my brother got her angry, but she made up for it years later by buying a Toploader, if she never would have destroyed that toaster NES I would never have gotten my Toploader.

I really don't care too much that the NES was smashed, considering the abundance in the wild. Anyway, what made me upset is that kids these days don't give 2 shits about a game unless it has good graphics.

Smash my 360/Wii/PS3 was awesome, this was not. Those other Smash guys knew what they were doing. Destroying the newly released systems like that, in front of frothing, eager lines of people... The destruction was only a means to an end. What they were actually doing was smashing and mocking said frothing people's over inflated value invested in the items they were destroying. Pure psychological trauma and blasphemy. A worthy pursuit of destructive behavior. It sent a message.

The NES deserved a glorious death/destruction, or at least one of purpose. Not to be hammered to death behind some suburban homes. An explosion, fire, something at least dramatic. Or better still, something that involved ingenuity and creativity... Like say a Rube Goldberg-esque console destruction machine. Their execution was crude, and their style was pure vulgarity. I award them no points and may Miyamoto have mercy upon their souls...

I'm not mad about the NES or games being destroyed, I am about the proliferation of these "smash videos" on Youtube.

They don't even do anything halfway creative, just a bunch of "hur, hur, I can use dis bat! hur hur". :shameful:

This isn't really true, a lot of virtual console purchases are kids.

These are just the visible twats on youtube, not everyone is like this.

If Graphics were all that mattered, LittleBigPlanet wouldn't have sold so many copies.

I once worked at Savers (thrift store)(for a month)... My first day I had to sweep up everything that fell out of the trash compactor. I remember having a weird feeling sweeping up scattered bits of SNES.

That place was a joke, I remember watching things get thrown away because the pricer determined (quite often) that they were too old or that nobody would want them.

EXACTLY how I am, about being considered a nerdy person. I became fascinated with all the old consoles by the time I was 8 or 9, and never gave two shits about graphics. I'm told all the time "8-Bit Mario sucks. It isn't as violent as Mass Effect (or whatever the hell they play these days)". Makes me wanna strangle some people. And I'm 14 now too and I still don't give a shit about gay ass school fags.

Or I'd go into their house and steal their 360s, replacing it with an NES or other cool retro console and some games for it. I'd threaten to pawn their 360 if they didn't PROVE that they respected the 8 and 16 bit eras. Would make me a lot of money, or at least I'd think so. heh heh

I like how he said the Atari 2600 port of Pac-man was "legendary."

Just goes to show how stupid they really are. The VCS version was a piece of shit, and almost ended video games altogether as it's one of the main reasons the crash of 83 happened.

Somehow the hyperbole of the topic title saddens me more than the smashing of NESs.

JimmyDean

That asshole who designed the Atari 2600 pac-man apparently was getting guaranteed something like 1 million$ and just rushed through it. Dick even photocopied his check and taped it to his office door. What a crappy port, though. I'd still have liked to see the Atari port of Xevious come out, even though I resent Xevious and consider it one of the worst shmups of all time.

Hmmm...no offense, but you might want to do a bit more research/asking about this. You've got a few things wrong. Also, I've met him a couple times at CGE and he never struck me as an "asshole."

JimmyDean
05-06-2010, 12:10 PM
Wow. I just watched the video again and if you look in the background these guys appear to be really poor. They should have kept that NES, it's probably the only one they can afford instead of a Shitbox 360. LOL But seriously, I'd take Megaman 2 over MassEffect any day. Although I would take MW2 (which is okay, nothing special) over Ecco the Dolphin, which is complete shit.

Edit: That port was crap and you know it. He might not be an asshole, but he made one of the crappiest games of all time and influenced the crash of 83' to some extent. Have you ever played Pac-Man on 2600? Imagine being a little kid that just spent today's equivalent of around 40$ to play Pacman and ended up with the abomination that is Pac-Man on Atari 2600.

That's a bit much... A baseball bat to the kneecaps would do just fine. Then I would take whatever consoles they owned, and run it over with my car. Or keep it for myself, depending on if I don't own it already...

Actually, here in Brazil, where the Pac-Man arcade wasn't that common, the 2600 version - the only one a lot of brazilians were familiar with - is fondly remembered by lots of 30-year-olds today. It's still a fun game to play, if you don't compare it to the real thing.

Now back to topic: this "i'm so muthafuckin tough" attitude is getting popular among brazilian teenagers as well. All the kids are is just so full of themselves, "so rad, so gangsta". Go figure...

Have you ever watched the documentary Once Upon Atari, in which Howard Scott Warshaw interviews his former Atari colleagues? In it, Tod Fry said that the problem with 2600 Pac-Man was that his bosses refused to allow more memory for the game. He did what he could with the limitation that were imposed to him.

Just as Howard Scott Warshaw's E.T. game was rushed not because of lack of profesionalism on his part but because Atari gave him impossible deadlines to design a game from scratch, with no time to finetune the game or do any quality assurance on it.

JimmyDean
05-06-2010, 02:55 PM
Did not know that. Yeah, some 2600 carts had some extra ram on the cart, right? I think that the supercharger did. Anyway, I was not aware that it was a piece of crap due to the technical limitations. Wait... didn't the 2600 have a cost-reduced version of the MOS 6502? I think it was called the 6507.

Lady Jaye
05-06-2010, 03:05 PM
For technical questions about the 2600, I'm really not the best person to answer you. I do know that the capacity of the carts grew with time because of the use of bankswitching (basically a way to cheat around the memory limitations), but aside from that, others here or at atariage are better resources than me.
