This game is looking great from the screens. The rest of this year is looking pretty solid for PSP.

Those screens probably aren't even the actual screenshots from the game. Remember GT Portable?

Anyways. Another God of War game that shows off impressive graphics, extremely average gameplay, and a boring overrated storyline.

Great news. I wish they'd make more games with average gameplay and boring storylines.

This thread reminds me that I still haven't picked up Chains of Olympus. Target had it on clearance but I haven't found a copy lately. I need to get on that.

How so?

I hope it turns out decent, but I recently went through a release list and identified a whole two games coming out that I'm really interested in (Ace Combat and Kingdom Hearts). And this is coming from someone that owns 40 games for the system so it's not like I have a really narrow area of focus that limits what I'm interested in on the platform.

And I think SNK Arcade Classics 0 is slated for a PSP release. But with it being developed for the PS2, I won't be purchasing the PSP port.

I'm surprised the first PSP God of War was never ported to the PS2. Seems like it would be easy money for them and be a decent seller for the platform.

PSP definitely doesn't look as good this year as it did last year. I think 2009 was definitely the best year for the system. I'm currently interested in Hexyz Force and Badman 2, but as usual I'll wait for a price drop on both.

If games announced also count, there's that Yakuza game for PSP. Project K. Kazuma isn't the lead character and it's once again in Kamurocho(maybe somewhere extra also?) but it's Yakuza so it'll be awesome. The game looks to be using prerendered backgrounds.

This year for the PSP might have some gems, but the system is currently on life support. Not expecting more than a handful of games to buy for the system.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and Mod Nation Racers is a pretty good start I would say. I'm sure there will be a few surprises along the way as well?

Don't forget Valkyria Chronicles 2. I'm still annoyed about that being a PSP game.

I forgot about VC2. Another game I want.

However, because of the limitations of VC2 being a PSP game and not being able to handle exactly the same as the PS3 version, they've got that new game play concept that if someone hasn't made it to map b, that person can't participate in that portion of the battle until they get there.

So being on the PSP gives a unique gameplay element that probably wouldn't have been thought of or considered on the PS3. More than likely, a PS3 version would have been the exact same game all over again with just a few minor differences, aside from story obviously.

Another game I want that probably won't come out here is Phantasy Star Portable 2.

Sony needs to get off their asses real quick and start pumping out AAA games on a regular basis for the PSP. That's probably one of the biggest reason why it regularly finishes 2nd to the DS.

They have been pumping out AAA games for the past couple of years as have a number of third parties. Things like Gran Turismo and Socom Fireteam Bravo 3. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to impact sales all that much here in the US.

The reason for that is if you follow a simple set of instructions you can have your PSP with custom firmware in no time. I remember when I originally got my PSP I heard about custom firmware so made sure not to upgrade it. I had to use the PSP 2.71 Hen-D downgrader to where I downloaded a picture file and kept on opening it(which would in turn crash my PSP) until it got to the correct color. After it did the right color and didn't crash my PSP I was able to load the file under game and CFW.

I thought my PSP was broken because I had sound but no picture. It just so happens that those model PSPs had an extra brightness using Hen-D which would turn the screen off.

With stuff as simple as that to downgrade the portable, you wonder why people who don't own one or never downgraded one say it takes so much effort. Now days yes, it's impossible to downgrade one unless you get a Pandora battery and even then you can't downgrade it any longer if the firmware is too high(which it most likely is.)

But yeah. Piracy is a major problem on the PSP. A game like God of War 3 went into a million sold on the first day. The new PSP God of War probably won't break 200,000. Maybe downloaded a million times in one day, but not a million sales.

Back to the original topic, I'm glad to see that God of War III isn't the last we will see of Kratos. My only apprehension is another trip down to Hades. Knowing what we do about the game, there's no need for that. Again.

I tried downgrading my friend's JP PSP with that Hen downgrader for an hour. Stupid ass thing did not work once. Easy, it was not.

God of War has never really done it for me. I'm sure the portable ones are good if you're a fan of the console version, but I thought the first one was a pretty standard (if pretty and well polished) hack 'n slash button masher with uber-crappy puzzles thrown in.

[O/T]with uber-crappy puzzles thrown in.

I especially like the one where they show where you've been before and if you're not really paying attention to that short amount of time that they kind of hint to you that you need to go back you'll be looking around atleast 30 minutes to an hour because they don't give you this hint again.

Then after you finally do go that way you're supposed to walk back through a large portion of the area to which you end up thinking. Maybe I'm not supposed to go back here after all and then turn around and waste more time looking.

Or the stupid puzzles they have that are right in front of your face. Like the seemingly invisible buttons on the ground that make the plants grow to make a bridge on God of War 2. It took me over an hour to progress past that stupid part because I didn't see the button. It's like they tried to make it not look like what you're supposed to press because it just looks like roots at the end.

The puzzles are what make the game suck and even then like you said, it's not anything other than your standard brawler type gameplay with prettied up graphics. If you ask me, X Men Origins: Wolverine is a pretty awesome game and the gameplay is so much more fun than the God of War games. Movie based game, and usually stuff like this is fairly low budget, looks pretty but sucks. This is actually really good.

I always knew that Sony was full of shit when they said GOWIII would be the last one in the series. They would never kill off a series that is such a cash cow. God of War will be around for a longggggggggg time.
