The DP Random Game Generator (tm) has chosen Jinks for the Atari 7800 on this fine day.

Well, it's an anomaly, allright. There weren't nearly enough "exclusive" Atari 7800 games, and this unusual Breakout-style game certainly is unique. So have you ever played it? Let's hear your thoughts on the game, write your own mini-review here.

DP Guide sez:

Jinks (Atari 7800, by Atari) $4/R2
This is the only 7800 cartridge to feature voice synthesis. A classic case of voice and sound effect theft. The "Welcome" greeting and subsequent gong are stolen straight from Gauntlet. If anyone can figure out what's being said after that, please let us know. Action/Platform/Fixed Screen. Voice-enhanced. SANTULLI SLANT: Bounce a ball off of various objects to reach the goal in four unique levels of play. There's a "temptation" to call this a pong variant, but you don't lose anything for letting the ball get past you... so it's not as tempting as, say, Cindy Crawford naked. You can also rotate the paddle and move it up, down, left, and right. [Gr: 6, So: 8, Ga: 6, Ov: 6] #CX7857.

I got this game in a lot with a bunch of other 2600/7800 games. "Played" for about 2 minutes and went back to Ms Pac-Man and Missile Command. I probably should've read the manual first but better games took precedence.

It's been a long time since I've heard it, but I always thought it said "Youch" or something like that.

The title screen of the game actually features sound clips from Gauntlet

"Welcome!" (Announcer)
*Boing* (Teleporter)
"You can't catch me!" (Thief)
"Yoww!" (Elf)

That's my entire basis for my "there's a Gauntlet prototype for 7800 somewhere" theory.

I actually liked this game alot as a kid. I played it alot, insanely crappy sound and all. It's still a rather bizarre Breakout clone, and, although not the best 7800 exclusive, is still pretty decent.

Yes that's it.

Oh I'm pretty sure that that exists somewhere as well...

I'm fairly confident that a 2600 version will turn up someday, just like whappened with Crack'ed.
