So, wasn't sure where to post this because I'm both interested in what it's worth and how it compares to other Sega CD models. Also almost posted this under the May finds ;-)

I found a Sega CD model 1 for sale tonight, with a model 1 Sega Genesis (High-Def Graphics) version for $60 total. I picked it up because I was pretty sure that the Sega CD model 1 was a little rare. I already have a JVC X'Eye so I'm not sure which one I'm going to keep.

Here's my questions.

1. What is the Sega CD Model 1 worth?
2. How does it compare to other Sega CD models? Is it desireable?
3. Should I keep this setup or the X'Eye?

Any feedback would be awesome.

A loose Sega CD 1 is worth 40-70. The genesis adds little value to a collector, but people that don't have either will want it. Looks like an untested, no "chords" setup went on ebay recently for 150 plus shipping, but I really think that is a fluke. I'd sell my boxed one for that in a heartbeat.

The Model 1 is more rare than a model 2, and is generally considered more desirable from an aesthetic perspective. But, it is also less reliable because of the added moving parts.

Definitely keep the X'eye if you have to choose. It is much harder to find and probably easier to repair. I have a CDX that I pull out to play stuff on, but I keep a SCD 2 in the collection because I think it is neat in a chunky/clumsy way. I've sold several SCD 2 bundles. Keep them both if you can and if you are a collector, particularly if it works well. Personally I think you'll have trouble making money on it, but it wasn't a bad deal if you wanted it.
