Is anyone going to be celebrating the Saturn's 15th anniversary (in the states) tomorrow? I believe tomorrow will also mark 15 years of E3. I recognize the Saturn's true bday is tomorrow, but usually don't celebrate until June 1st, which is when I got mine.

Anyway, happy birthday, Sega Saturn!

Happy 15, Sega Saturn!

Two years ago today on the dot I wrote my own personal SEGA Saturn SAGA, which can be read here:

Basically chronicles how I got into the system more than 10 years ago, the 350+ game collection I amassed from '99-'05... and why the Saturn provided me with some of the happiest moments of my gaming career.

Man, a small part of me regrets not maxing out my credit card to buy the Saturn on May 11, 1995. It probably would have been a bad idea to buy the Saturn and then wait and wait for the games that were only going to be ready on September 2, 1995 but seeing that I never got any opportunity to play the Saturn and its great games, I missed my chance.

The Saturn was priced at $459 or something in Canada. That's a lot of money to pay for a console. I ended up waiting for the PlayStation and I didn't regret that decision. However, I would love to find a Sega Saturn and play some of the games on it. It would be nice if they would bring Saturn games onto the Virtual Console.

Before I got married, I used to drive down to my future wife's place in Bloomington, IL and bum around town while she worked on my days off. She started early so I'd usually play the Gameboy or read a magazine until the stores opened. On May 11, I had wandered into Toys R Us shortly after they opened and was shocked to see a Saturn kiosk up and running. I recall they were playing Panzer Dragoon and I was completely blown away. Alas, the price was way out of my league at that time so I had to stick with the SNES I had, but years later I finally got a Saturn and Panzer Dragoon. Great memories!

Wow, the Saturn is as old as the Intellivision was when the Saturn came out? And now Intellivision is 30? Dayum.

I think I might fire up some Panzer Dragoon tommorow (or today for some of you guys).

Still one of the best systems for fighting games and 2d shooters.

Still one of the best systems for fighting games and 2d shooters.Seriously. The Saturn was king for 2D fighters, and the import scene was just ridiculous. So much arcade goodness.

Happy birthday Saturn! Was never able to get one when they came out but years later I picked up a used system and played the hell out of it until it died on me. Since I mainly had imports I just went ahead and picked up a Japanese Saturn a few months after my US system died. Like some people have already said, the 2D fighters were damned amazing on the Saturn as well as the shooters. Gonna have to play some Street Fighter Zero 2', Burning Rangers and House of the Dead later on to celebrate the Saturns birthday (would play some of the RAM/ROM cart games but my cart slot isn't working at the moment :().

I got a late start on the Saturn. Bought my first game 8 years ago. And while the Saturn isn't the first system that I've bought import games for, no other console in my house has a library so lop-sidded favoring imports. The Saturn's a great system with a great library of games that are fun to play and collect.

It's really nuts how many great imports games there are for the Saturn compared to what we got over here. I remember late in the systems life Electronics Boutique actually sold import Saturn games, right there in store (albeit for much higher prices). I'd never seen a retail chain do that before.

no need to feel bad.
after all, i've had mine for less than a year, and yet it's the console i own the most games for, and, imo, the best games for.

I've had a Saturn since 2003, so this is my seventh year with it. One of my favourite consoles of all time.

Recently sold my spare PAL model and bought a white Jap model 2. I love it.

I think I bought my Sega Saturn used at a Blockbuster tent sale I wanna say in 1999? 2000? I went there to pick up Yoshi's Story as the wife wanted it and it was cheap (for an N64 game anyway). Saw the Saturn and did a dumb move: bought that system and a couple games for a couple bucks more than Yoshi's Story. Said I couldn't find the game there but check this out! Then one day we went to Blockbuster and the Yoshi's Story was there. She was not happy with me. So I quick bought Bust a Move 2 Arcade and she got sucked into that. And yes I got Yoshi's Story at the same time.

It is a fun system that is usually hooked up at all times. I just started getting into imports so as soon as the Dungeons and Dragons Collection I bought lands in my mailbox, you know what I'll be playing.

Here's to one of the best 2D machines of all time. Many a good hour I've spent on my Saturns and looking back I have no regrets.
