Snes issues

hows it going guys, first post from me.

I got a snes snsp-001A in a job lot of broken consoles, when i turn it on the sound works perfectly, the graphics are glitched all over the place though.

i havent done a snes before so im not too sure what this might be so basically im looking for advice on things to check when i do open it, The psu and AV cables are fine as they are the ones from my main snes, It is a Pal snes if that makes a difference.

also by the look of it someone tried cleaning the cartridge slot with oil(smells like wd40)

my guess is its dead but i might be wrong, any advice is much appreciated

I'd replace the cartridge connector. The WD-40 could be shorting the pins together, but I'm not too sure.

At least start with cleaning the cartridge connector. Alcohol and a toothbrush or cloth wrapped around a plastic card.

tried cloth wrapped around a card but it was dry, not too sure where i could locally find rubbing alcohol but ill give a go with that.

I have a mini snes thats doing the same thing,every game is glitched.

For one I when I first got it I had to replace the fuse,then it worked great like a snes should but the other day I went to play it and I get no power,fuse is dead.
So what I did was remove the fuse and bridged the solder joints together but it does turn on but every game I try are glitched.I might get a replacement fuse to see if it renders the problem but if its the cartridge connector(I gave it a nice cleaning) than that would be a pain to replace since mine is soldered in.

would methylated spirits be ok to use instead of rubbing alcohol? its meant to be pretty hard to get isopropyl alcohol here

loads of wd40 on the mobo when i opened it, wiped it all off with a dry cloth, dunno what to do from here. is there anything i could soak the whole board in to get rid of the oil or am i looking at a few hours wiping it with alcohol?

From what ive seen,you can wash the board with soap and water. Others ive seen have put motherboards in the dishwasher,but the bleach is the thing that makes me wonder how well that works. Now that may sound like a very bad idea but as long as the board is completely dry there will be no problems at all,thing is,you have to wait 7-10 days for it to dry. The guy that made the iNto 64 (N64 Handheld) shows you how.

Only if you want to thou,ive seen people leave water on the board too long and it corrodes the thing. So if you dont wanna take the risk, put some elbow grease into it and clean all that oil off with alcohal.
