View Full Version : What game do you dominate?

There may already be a thread like this, but I couldn't see one.

What is the one game that no one can beat you at? What game to do you utterly dominate to the point that you could be considered the best at?

My game is Intelligent Qube. 651,800 and a game IQ (it gives it to you after you lose/beat it) of 292. Apparently I'm brilliant lol.

I lost one round in SF64 since it came out-and that was the result of the other three guys teaming up to take me out of the game, and me having the unfortunate luck of getting shot down that time. Other then that, I've been unbeatable. Keep in mind that for about 3 or 4 months, SF64 was one of the only games I played(as it was my only 64 game), and I played it alot.

I used to hold the Twin Galaxies-recognized high score for Halloween for the Atari 2600. Actually, I was the first to exceed 100,000 points as well. But there is now one man better than me, as my score has dropped to second place.

It is my experience that there are usually several people in every town who think they are god at any given game. If you wish to gain credibility, or perhaps you just wish to find a challenge, it is your responsibility to seek them out and let the infidels know just who is god and who is not.

I *will* reclaim my Halloween World Record. I have been practicing quite a bit. I've more than beaten my old high score, in fact. But I'm still 100,000 points below what Morrow has posted. My goal is to beat his World Record while at CGE. Public dominance will be mine once again!

One day about 20 years ago I sat down with my Atari 2600, put in Asteroids, set it to game 9, and proceeded to flip the board ten times (for a total of 1 million points, IIRC). I suspect, however, that doing that was more a testament to my determination than my skill. Even Kid Fenris could probably do it.

I notice that in all the challenge matches you've publicly played thus far, you've only lost one out of like three billion. What happened in that one game? Your opponent kicked you in the shins? It was a mentally challenged player, so you threw him a win? I'd love to see you play -- I wish you could make it to CGE.

I'm sure you are ;) But consider this.. Street Fighter being one of the most competitive and POPULAR games in it's time.. damn, a LOT of bastards are good at it :P

I cut my teeth at Golfland in Sunnyvale (http://www.shoryuken.com/apex/?division=npacific&arcade=svgl)where Capcom playtested their machines .. and was lucky enough to travel to Japan a couple times a year then(family trips) and visit arcades where Capcom JAPAN playtested machines. .. I still remember being wowed when Capcom employees rolled in a test Super Street Fighter 2 for 2 hours, stood there and took notes, then rolled it back out. I don't know where I'm going with this.. but the bottom line is, there are a lot of friggin good ass Street Fighter 2 players out there.. wooh! It's hot :P

My personal speciality is surprising opponents with my unorthodox E-Honda Style.. but although I like to think I'm good. I know there are about a couple hundred thousand peeps out there who can kick my ass LOL SF2.. it's tough to be dominant! :)

Yeah, I know you weren't purposely trying to shoot down my dream of being the best SFII player of all time LOL . Nah, I'm just playin around anyway, I wish I could of lived in a more populated area as to test my skills with more variety of players. My home town only has a population of 30,000...so the talent pool was small, but I think I'm tops in my area. I have no way to prove it around here anymore as I can't find a SFII machine within a 20 mile radius :/ I'll bet loads of SFII machines have been converted by now.

I've been fortunate in the public matches so far, I believe with the Austin Gaming Expo and Quakecon that will change. As you can see the general record is not as good. Statistically, I lose 5% of the rounds I play, so I shouldve lost more than one public round by now. As for the guy, he was pretty sharp, but it was nothing out of the ordinary.

That reminds me, I played this kid in a wheelchair once at 40 Acres Fest. Unfortunately I cant afford to have mercy, so I pounded the snot out of him.

Of the 62 matches I've played this year, 56 of them have been straight sweeps; only 6 people have gotten one round or more. Of those 6 people, 3 of them only got one, which can be dismissed as a fluke rather easily. But overall, I lose individual rounds all the time, but I have lots of wins to offset them.

I dont have the funds right now to any fancy traveling, maybe if i can pick up a sponsor between the Austin Gaming Expo and CGE I'll go, but it wont be likely.

Ah, I did beat NG 3, definately the hardest of the 3. The other 2 are actually quite easy (especially 2) once you've beaten them several times.

My greatest success though, comes from NBA Hangtime on the N64. One of my favorite games, you will NEVER score more 3-pointers than me, guaranteed.

None of my friends have been able to beat me in Puzzle Fighter either, although I'm not certain if I would "dominate" another good player.

Nah, Kid Fenris is too busy trying to survive the sixth level of R-Type. You probably know what I mean . . . or do you?

Some games I'm good at, some I'm not, but there's nothing at which I can always beat people.

But perhaps I should pick a game so obscure that no one would ever bother to test my skill at it. Yeah, I can crush any opponent when it comes to Lightning Legend! My Mokomoko OWNZ.

Oh well, at least I beat Ninja Gaiden 3 fair and square.

I'm utterly unbeatable at Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League. Nobody has every got me more then twice in a row. People won't play me anymore... it sucks.

I'm pretty decent at other action puzzle games... Dr. Mario I've unbeatable... Tetris I'm pretty good (mostly becaues I'm quick and accurate)... Puzzle Fighter I'm good but that game is designed in a way that eliminates skill 9 times out of 10.

Outside of Video Games, I've been told I'm the most ruthless, nasty, cutthroat Monopoly player ever. I rarely lose though, so fuck everyone else lol.

I should hope so since Game 9 is probably the Asteroids equivalent of the "teddy bear" level in 2600 games :P

Just a single level away... Game 10 (asteroids move at more varied angles) and difficulty settng "A" (UFO'S!) Now flipping THAT 10 times would be a feat :-D

I was wondering when somebody would point that out! LOL In fairness, I believe I did play on difficulty A. Without the UFOs for points, I would have probably had to go to bed before I could have got ten flips.

R-Type laughed at me last night. While I have developed flawless technique in levels 1-3, I did not even see the level 4 boss. For some reason, it is counterproductive for me to even try playing the same shmup on two consecutive days. If I were to play tonight, the battleship would probably pwn me.

I could crush any of you yahoos in Unreal Tournament for PS2.

I'm pretty good at tons of console games. Arcade games I owned everyone in town at Mortal Kombat 1 & 2, and I got so good at Nam 1975 I could beat it on a single quarter. I'm nowhere near that good now since I've been out of practice.

I generally dont fool around, I try to take care of business as swiftly as possible. However if i am playing someone who doesnt know what he's doing I'll practice some of the more advanced shots since theres less risk of being vulnerable if i miss them.

Most everyone is humble about the whole thing, they acknowledge that everything is legitimate. I have occasionally been accused of cheating, but they dont do it in a serious way.

Ah, someone mentioned Unreal Tournament...

I haven't really played FPSes online since the original Unreal had all of its servers up while I was in college. I used to dominate in that game. Never played too much of tournament...about that time I realized that my cable modem was just not fast enough to really lay the smackdown on the other college kids who were in the dorms with access to multiple T3 lines. Network speed has a lot to do with those games, as people can jump around if you have lag...but if they're not lagging they can keep you right in their crosshairs.

In spite of that I'm still really good at Command & Conquer: Renegade when I play that since it's not all a matter of number of frags but there's a fair amount of strategy & economics involved in terms of laying mines, taking out enemy buildings, etc. Even an engineer-type can rack up a pretty good score by doing some sneak-in or APC raid and blowing up a building or two.

But I hate - and I mean HATE - playing FPSes with a gamepad. I hate it with a passion. The only one I like is Metroid Prime because you have the ability to lock-on and you don't have to aim with that horrible analog stick. A mouse is hands-down better than those things, and it's just as sweet when it's a Logitech iFeel mouse and you can feel the gun vibrating beneath your palm >)

As far as 2d games...I don't know if I've ever really played one so obsessively that I can "beat" someone else. I was decent at Gorf, and Ms Pac Man was always one of my stronger points, but I'm sure there are better people out there. I'm definitely not into the fighting game thing - moves way too fast. I can do all the moves, but I just don't have the precision that some people have especially with those combos.

But I hate - and I mean HATE - playing FPSes with a gamepad. I hate it with a passion.
Then you know how I feel about the keyboard/mouse combo. I admit that it's hard to set your analog stick sensitivity so that it's fast enough to turn you around quickly but slow enough to aim with some degree of precision. But I guess you just need more practice. :P ;)

Nah, Kid Fenris is too busy trying to survive the sixth level of R-Type. You probably know what I mean . . . or do you?
I do now. x_x I've been playing too much Gradius. Until last night I failed to realize that the [whatever the hell it is] at the top and bottom of the screen in the fifth level was purely decorative and not your usual side-scrolling "deadly terrain". Once you take advantage of the entire screen, the fifth level goes down a lot easier. Emboldened by success, I crushed the boss.

Level 6 is indeed a rotten place.

Death trax.... this was a old PC game,

i ran it on a 16 mhz 386 back then, but the game had no frame limiter, so it ran twice as fast... i played it so much that i could complete the whole game without dieing once, always finishing 1st, at double the framerate effortlessly.

I think that's the only game i've ever been the absolute master of.

Probably Mega Man 3 for the NES. Can rock that game pretty well and usually run through Wily's Castle loosing only 2 lives max (Usually fighting the 8 masters again before Gamma so i can save Energy Tanks).
