I recently picked up the Stargate for the Gameboy and well... it's a bit confusing to say least. It came with no manual and a quick google search wasn't really helpful.

It's a puzzle game of some sort and you have to place blocks on top of each to... well I don't really know! Anyone here played it?

Believe it or not, I have it! I used to be obsessed with Stargate SG-1 so I picked this up hoping it would be a sidescrolling shooter game! Was a bit disappointed but its still pretty good.

Been awhile since I played it, so I just popped it in and played for a couple minutes. Basically if you stack 3 of the same symbol, those 3 will disappear (like a line of tetris). See those 7 symbols at the top of the screen? You want to get a Tetris (not sure what else to call it) for each of those symbols. Once you do I think you just get a new set of symbols, but that's pretty much the goal.

Also, the blank tiles are free obviously, and there's one that has a pyramid on one side and an arrow on the other. IIRC the arrow side gets rid of everything under it, and the pyramid, I think gets rid of all tiles on the screen that are the same as the one under it.

Hope this helps!

Good luck figuring it out, I never had the patience. That's a rare cart; where did you find it?

Is that so? How rare? I have it with manual, got it years ago on Ebay for I think $12. That'd be pretty cool if it was rare...

Thanks, I figured it out eventually. It hasn't become any more fun but my flatmate is seemingly becoming addicted to it...

I picked it up boxed from a charity shop for 99p, the guide has it as an R3. Unless my flatmate wants it it's going to be sold on ebay methinks.

I would be soooo pissed if I had bought that retail back in the day and it turned out to be some stupid puzzle game.

You took the words out of my mouth. It's rare enough to go for double-digits on eBay, which is fairly rare. You've probably seen, most games go for >$5 + shipping.

Interesting side note, the (supposedly) same game is available for the Game Gear in magical full-color. I'd be interested to hear from someone who can speak to their differences, if any.

Apparently, it looks like this

Interestingly, that's the only screenshot I've been able to find of either of the portable versions. The SNES one (I tried it with an emulator back in the day, bad me) was actually a sidescroller shooter, I didn't know about it when I bought this though.

Yeah, there aren't many shots of the game out there. Believe it or not, GameFaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/) is a good place for Game Boy screenshots. It's not bad for reviews of more obscure titles, as well. Go figure.

Since I own the entire SG-1 series on DVD, I was thoroughly disappointed when I got this game a month ago. I expected a sidescroller like the one I saw for the SNES. Sure, it was based on the movie, made long before the SG-1 show, so I didn't expect a phenominal game, but a puzzle game?

This game is frustrating without instructions.

Is it rare, for real? I got it on ebay for 3.25 and I saw another one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260567197798&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123) go for $5. Maybe it's rare but not in high demand.

It wouldn't have translated well, I fear. I imagine we would have gotten something like Cliffhanger :/

When the hell are they gonna make a good game for SG-1 anyway? They've had an FPS and an MMO in development forever, the MMO somehow turned into a FPS (os is it a TPS?) as some kind of a "demo" or something.

The freakin show practically writes the videogame. Gives you gun strength levels and upgrades and shit all the time. I suppose at this point it's now too late for an SG-1 game, what a waste.

I wonder if this puzzle game was actually an original title, or some hyper-obscure Japanese game with the license slapped on?

How did I not know that there were all these Stargate games floating around? The only one I ever found was some PC adventure games about the Atlantis team.

What about Stargate Resistance (http://store.steampowered.com/app/49700/)? Is that any good?

The only one I ever found was some PC adventure games about the Atlantis team. Was that an amateur game? There was one apparently rather well-done amateur adventure game based on SG-1 that I can recall.

What about Stargate Resistance (http://store.steampowered.com/app/49700/)? Is that any good?I presume that's what Mr. Cryomancer was referring to. I hadn't heard of it either. And only two reviews on GameRankings (http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/987825-stargate-resistance/articles.html). Hmm.

Yep, supposedly that game is a shootin' game based upon what the classes for the MMO will be / would have been.

I have heard literally no one mention ever playing it. I'm curious, but a multiplayer game with no one talking about it is usually a bad sign.

Not sure if it's amateur or not, but I found it on Wikipedia. It's called Stargate Worlds.

Stargate SG-1 (Gameboy)

Wait, now I'm confused. There was an SG-1 game for Gameboy? Or is it just Stargate? There is a difference.

No, never. Definitely not. I don't know why the poster chose that title. The one and only Stargate title for Game Boy was a tie-in with the film. Game Boy never heard of no SG-1.

Unless you wanna be an in-universe jackass and say that the characters you 'play' as in the GB game eventually become members of SG-1.
