I recently acquired a modded Sega Saturn which powers on and seems to work, but fails to read discs.
I have cleaned the lens and checked to make sure that it is moving properly, but the problem remains. It sounds like it's trying to read the discs but always fails.
On a possibly related note, the mod involves a switch on the front of the unit which does not seem to be working at all. It doesn't click in any way, the only direction it moves is inward.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

You may want to try re-sitting the cables that connect the motherboard to mod chip and from the mod chip to the CD-ROM.

You could also trying tweaking the intensity of the laser, there's a little orange dial right by the lens. Trying turning it a little clockwise and if it doesn't work still just keep tweaking it. If that doesn't work then you probably need to replace it.

Don't tweak the laser unless it's a very last resort type of thing. Because they can be very finnicky to adjust. And if you do turn the pot/screw - do it EVER so slightly.

just re lube the rods and see if it loads a game and clean the laser with just water on a cotton bud dip it in water and shake any exsee water off and then you laser with stay a blue color as rubbing alcohol 70% makes it go a dark
somkey color
