I've been lurking these parts for a while as I'm trying to make an Earthbound Zero cart. So first off, thanks to those on here who give thorough instructions :)

What I registered to ask though is a bit different. Would it be possible to take a Famicom game and replace only the PRG with an English one in order to play a translation of that game? Example: FF3.

FF3 seems to be a pita to make because you have to use a special/rare SMB2 cart and add a battery, resistors, etc. If you could take a Famicom FF3 and just replace the PRG (the CHR appears to be 28 pin) with the english PRG would it work in a Famicom, and subsequently an NES using a 60 to 72 pin converter?

I understand in the long run this might be more expensive, but personally, I'd prefer to have an original Famicom cart even if it's been rewired.

The hardest part of doing something like that would probably be opening the Famicom cart's outer shell.

the internals probably aren't much different from a NES cart though.
