Been playing Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie for SFC lately. I forgot how awesome that shmup is! I know there are a lot of junk anime based games out there for the old systems but are there more anime games out there that are actually good? Imports are definitely welcome.

There's UN Squadron for SNES, Tecmo Cup Soccer (not to be confused with Tecmo World Cup Soccer) for NES, and some of the recent Bleach games.

Finding good anime games outside of Japan is indeed a crapshoot. In most cases for classic games, anime references were either removed or unmentioned.

I have that one. I had no idea there was an anime. O_O

as far as the bleach games go, the only ones i can recommend are the blade battlers games on ps2.
then of course you have the yu yu hakusho and dbz games on sfc.
i've actually been playing the ranma 1/2 rpg, pretty fun, but nothing groundbreaking.

oh, and the berserk games, 1 on dreamcast and one on ps2, the ps2 one is import only.

If you like Digital Comics, Bubblegum Crash for PCE

also, Secret of Blue Water, and Devil Hunter Yoko.

If you do not like digital comics, don't play these lol.

Also, Gall Force on MSX. That is a sweet game.

Only ones I can think of is Dargon ball z budokia, zoids battle legends both for gamecube, dragon ball z burstlimit and any naruto game is great, but I don't go for the DS's naruto ninja council series. Hope this helps. Theses are the only anime series games I play.

-Bleach DS
-Bleach DS 2nd
-Naruto: Narutimate Accel (PS2)
-Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 (GC)
-Tenchi Muyo RPG (Super Famicom)
-Magic Knight Rayearth (Saturn, available in the US)
-Blood+ One Night Kiss (PS2, by the makers of No More Heroes)
-Hokuto no Ken (PS2, by the makers of Guilty Gear)

If you're looking for something on the Mega Drive, there's always YuuYuu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen (sp?). It was made by Treasure like the Bleach DS game, and runs on the original fighting engine that was reworked for Bleach DS. The gameplay is also quite similar to Guardian Heroes if that interests you even more.

Hajime No Ippo for GBA (first person boxing title) and Astro Boy for GBA. Both made by Treasure. Hajime No Ippo is an import and worth every penny.

I did not know they made an Ippo GBA game, I shall pick that up for sure.

Anyone mention the Sailor Moon fighters yet? heh

Well, if we're counting imports, there's that Gundam Wing: Endless Duel game for Super Famicom.

They really aren't too bad by the standards of the time.
The beat em up's arent either

and the RPG is top notch.

There are quite a few good Gundam games, including Gundam Side Story 0079 for Dreamcast. In general, most of the ones with "SD" in the title are good too. Which is a lot of games. SD Gundam Force for GBA actually came out in North America. Also check out SD Gundam: G Century S for (Japanese) Saturn.

-Tenchi Muyo RPG (Super Famicom)If you're going to mention that, the Slayers RPG for SFC is apparently quite nice as well. (Both of these games have translation patches, of course.)

Record of Lodoss War for Dreamcast is a very good Diablo-alike, and even got a US release.

The Macross shooter on the PC Engine CD is pretty good also.

The Victorious Boxers series are in fact Hajime no Ippo games.

Jump Super Stars(import)
Jump Ultimate Stars(iimport)Acht, someone should have mentioned those a long time ago - though technically I suppose they're based off manga and not anime.

They're quite playable with minimal guidance (especially Ultimate Stars), but there's a translation patch for Ultimate Stars out now that makes it even more playable.

The console versions I've played are very different when compared to the superior GBA import-only version.

I enjoyed both of the PS2 Full Metal Alchemist games that were released here. Hell I imported the first, thinking it would never get licensed state side...DOH.

Also, two decent fighters:

Dragon Ball Z: Legends(PS1+Saturn) to this day is still one of the best DBZ games of all time. Besides for the awesome 3 vs 3 fighting modes, it's story mode runs thru the entire DBZ time line(just DBZ, not Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball" GT). In both cases you have to get an import version because apparently Bandai/Atari decided that only the shitty one on one fighting games(DBGT: Final Bout and DBZ: Ultimate Battle 22) were worth localizing for the US market.

Sailor Moon Another Story on SNES was actually pretty good RPG and the Tenchi Muyo game was alright. Record of Lodes Wars for Dreamcast was a pretty good hack and slash game, not sure how relevant to the series it is tho.

Lodoss War for dreamcast was an excellent game. Really solid gameplay and mechanics. Its one of the better dreamcast games in general.

Are the GBA DBZ games any good? I seem to recall they were regarded favorably.

Many of the Keroro Gunsou games are good, although there is a quality difference from game to game.

The ps2 Mero Mero Battle Royale games are Smash Bros / Power stone kind things (probably more like Power Stone really). They're alright.

There's several Keroro games on DS, I've played the third one a fair bit, and it's a puzzly platformer. I assume at least some of the others are too. here's a video of one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gn7o4Fb_Leo&feature=related

It helps that the creator is a big game player and has worked on games in the past, so if they made super shitty games with his characters he'd probably be pissed.

I forgot about those. I forgot about Dragon Ball even being an anime I don't ever watch the anime anymore just play the games :P.

I haven't played Legacy of Goku but I own Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury. I think both are really good games, but for some reason the special physical attacks each character had in Legacy of Goku 2 were removed on Buu's Fury and each character is now only different based on their special attacks like Kamehameha, etc.

All the games chronicle the DBZ storyline from their start positions to where you expect. You have three major plot points for DBZ. Saiyan/Frieza, Android/Cell, and Buu, which is how the games take place. There's a lot of filler in between such as get Hercule a sandwhich, save a bus full of kids, etc, as well as getting to where your next story objective is an action/adventure environment with RPG elements.

Also.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai series and Infinite World, Tenkaichi 2 and 3, Advance Adventure(it's alright,) and Ultimate Battle 22 are good.

I have yet to play either version actually, but they're supposed to be great.

Kujaku Ou and Kujaku Ou 2 (released in the US with nearly all anime references removed as Spellcaster [SMS] and Mystic Defender [Genesis] respectively) are two of my old favorites.
