View Full Version : Any questions for Jerry Lawson (Channel f)
Recently made contact with Gerald (Jerry) Lawson and will hopefully
be talking to him again within the next month.
Since there may be some other Channel F Collectors who are
interested in the history of this historical game system I thought I
would start a thread for questions you may like to ask him.
You can either PM me your questions or post them here, probably
posting them here would be better as others may have interest in
the same information
BTW The Demo 2 cart was used as a Sales Demo for the European
Market and the System II was shipped and sold by Fairchild for a
short time before turning things over to Zircon.

I don't have any questions, he's done some fascinating talks at different conventions and things that have really filled out the history of Fairchild's Channel F pretty well. I was really wondering how his health was. The last time I saw pictures of him he was wheelchair bound, and he might have had an oxygen tube in his nose. How's he doing nowadays?

I only talked to him on the phone so not sure, he sounded ok, I did mention I hoped his
health was ok as I was aware he was having health issues a few years back.

First off, I wanted to share my appreciation for his pioneering work in the field. We often hear about Nolan Bushnell and Ralph Baer, but Jerry Lawson is one of the unsung heroes of the early days of video gaming.
My question is in regards to the VCS: How did you feel when the Atari console first hit the market? Were you enthused about the direction the gaming industry was headed, or were you disappointed when it began to outsell the Channel F?
Also, what exactly was the story behind Zircon getting the rights to the Channel F from Fairchild? Was Fairchild afraid that the market was going to go south, or was Zircon so eager to get into the market that they jumped on the first console they could get?

I will add this to my list and offer your appreciation as a side note.
Thanks for your input I will post the response here once I meet him
again, should be sometime next month

You might want to talk with the DP guys and/or Earl (PhosphorDotFossils), as they may have already covered a lot of ground, especially if any of his panels at past CGEs were recorded.

Jerry was one of my favorite speakers to hear from previous Classic Gaming Expo events.
What was his most favorite Channel F game to play?
Does he have a favorite classic video game(any system)?
What is his best postive memory from working on the Channel F?

Thanks, Yes I have Read, Viewed and listened to all the available
material about and from Mr. Lawson but I dont think we will ever get
all the history recorded sometimes as time passes old memories pop
back in sparked by a new question. Also opening this up to the
community will give a broader interest base where questions not yet
asked can be included. Again Thanks for your input as I also dont
want to go over what has already been covered
