The DP Guide Random Generator of Carnage (tm) chooses Rampage, specifically for the Atari Lynx, but let's discuss all the versions here just because we CAN.
A lot of people find the gameplay of Rampage repetitive, while others see the game as a fun, mindless diversion. Which one are you? Which version of Rampage did you like best, excluding the arcade version? Which version seemed closest to the arcade... or BETTER? Share your thoughts and write your own mini-review here.
DP Guide sez:
Rampage (Lynx, by Atari) $15/R4
Designed by Pete Wierzbicki, Susan McBride, Melody Rondeau. Based on the 1986 Bally Midway coin-op. Features a new character that wasn't in the arcade version: Larry the Rat. Supports multiple-system linking. EASTER EGGS: To play on any level, select a character and press pause while on the character selection screen. Hold Option 1 and move the D-pad when the headlines appear to change levels. SANTULLI SLANT: With a few subtle differences to make it more than just an arcade port, the tiny version of the game with the big monsters works rather well on the Lynx. Gosh how I wish I could be a giant monkey. I'd settle for being a medium-sized monkey, even, but the ability to smash stuff like this is just the ever lovin' end. [Gr: 7, So: 6, Ga: 7, Ov: 7] #PA2022.

Ironic, the longest game I've ever left paused. The NES version is my personal fave since I grew up with it. Repetitive? Yes? You really have to play it with 2-people to really understand it though.

Did the Lynx version have link support? Apparently, the GBC version of Rampage: World Tour has link support, but it can only be enabled through a code. (I imagine there was no time to fully test the link programming; the pre-GBA Game Link was apparently a nightmare to program for.)
The game does indeed get pretty repetitive pretty quickly, and I can't imagine someone lasting very long at the arcade without lots and lots of quarters. Nonetheless, it does have a certain appeal.
How well did the 2600 version work?

The Arcade game was one of my fav's. Sooo many quarters. as for home conversions, I remember being bored of the N64 version within minutes.

I really liked Rampage when it came out, played 3-player all the time down at the local arcade. But when revisiting the original, it leaves me a little let down. The premise still rules, but it's a little too sluggish and klunky in the control department for my impatient tastes.
Now Rampage World Tour, on the other hand, entertains me to no end. I can play this one for hours. It's a worthy sequel to the original game, and improves upon it in every way - faster gameplay, nifty "almost-claymation" styled graphics, and lots of hilarious little surprises. Universal Tour is a good game too, but if you're looking to play a Ramapage title, definitely avoid Rampage Through Time - bleh.

I remember playing Rampage in an full fledged arcade, probably the first time I ever saw that many machines in one place at once. Prior to that it was just the occasional standup in gas stations or the local mom and pop store.
I never got to visit arcades that often due to where I lived but I relished the moment. It was cool and dim in there and kids were everywhere. Altered Beast, a Nintendo Playchoice, Shinobi and Mrs. Pac Man were some of the others I tried out that day. Shame they don't have those type of places anywhere these days.
I always liked Lizzie but the game itself never captivated me beyond a few levels.

I gre up playing Rampage for hours in the arcade myself. played World Tour for awhile with a friend once and loved it. maybe I'll try to find a copy of it for N64 or PSX sometime...

Rampage is a cool game, and my kids love to play the watered down GameBoyColor version. In fact, yesterday I just picked up N64 Rampage World Tour -- haven't played it yet!

Good game today! Although, most home versions have not captured the magic of the arcade game. The only versions I've played that were truly like the arcade version, are the N64 games, but those are World Tour, not the original Rampage.
I have the 2600 and NES versions, and really, I just can't get in to either of those, but the NES version is the best I've played at home. If the Lynx version did what Xenophobe did on the Lynx, then I'm sure that Lynx Rampage is hands down the best.

ahh.. good ol' rampage. i think this was the first NES game that i ever beat (either rampage or captain skyhawk, i forget). i remember beating this in one sitting and it seemed like it took FOREVER. i would never want to beat rampage for the nes again. the n64 versions are very cool though.

Ironic Rampage is one of my favorite games. First let me say I own 2
versions. 1 for the Playstation on the Arcade Party Pak disc, the second
the SMS version. But I do prefer the SMS version to me it just plays better.

Which version of Rampage: World Tour is better to get though: the PSX or n64 version?
