Just got a cheap PS2 and I want to mess around with McBoot & HD Loader. Got the network adapter today but I'm still looking for a HDD. I'd like at least 250GB but the only ones I can find that size are WD drives which require modding to fit.
Would like to get a non-WD drive that I don't have to worry about it not fitting. Anybody here got one in good shape for sale?

I have a couple of drives laying around... 300 - 500GB IDE Maxtor Barracudas. Thought HDLoader only went up to 137GB... Make an offer on one of my 500s if you'd like.

Last time I installed an HDD, it was on my friends PS2.
I used a Seagate 160GB IDE, as these always gave me great luck.
You can check online for compatibility, though all drives I've used have worked without any issues (sans WD ones).

The wiki on HD Loader says v0.8b fixes the 128GB drive limit bug, so I should be good as long as I install a current version.
The compatibility lists don't seem to have been updated in a few years, but it looks like I should be good if I use Segate or Maxtor drives.
Anyway, PM coming your way Sabz...

Cool. Sorry for disappearing the last time we chatted... work and new baby are keeping my days busy.
I should have waited for my HDLoader. My 120GB is slam to the top full.
The drives are leftovers from my MythTV setup. They worked great the last time I checked them (roughly a month ago). I'll give em a good checking over and wipe the one you want clean before I ship it out.

I know you are looking for something large, but if you just want to test and mess around I have a few 40GB drives here. I'd let you have one for $5 plus shipping if you want.

Wow, I'll take one. Where in Jersey do you live?
And yeah, 0.8b fixes the old drive limit. I currently run a 500GB Hitachi I got for cheap on eBay.
Here's my recommended list of manufacturers to use with a PS2 network adapter:
Seagate
Maxtor
Hitachi
Don't mod the network adapter to accommodate the HD. I broke my first one doing that. Good thing they're plentiful and cheap again.

if you really want to get the wd drives working you can in theory cut the plating of the network adapter and unscrew the screws that hold the molex down.

Nice!
I would not mind a few, if it's ok with you. :)
Speaking of HDD's for PS2, is there any way I can obtain those rail brackets the original PS2 HDD came with?

The only way I got ahold of 'em was from a loose PS2 HDD. I'll also note that for a standard height 3.5 hard drive, the rails need to be ground down a tad.

I have to dig them out. I have one here in front of me and it just sold ;) I also have some 20GB drives somewhere too. I'll let you know.
PS: Didn't mean to steal the thread topic. Sorry :(
