I have no Xbox owners manual, so bear with me.

I repair systems for game stores. Whenever I'm testing an Xbox repair, I pop in one of my games. I was getting VERY tired of playing the first level of Panzer Dragoon Orta over and over whenever I was testing a 'box. So I bought a memory card. Problem solved?

Nope. the xbox knows I have a PDO save in the card, but it doesn't care! The game won't load it from the card. The Xbox won't let me copy the save to the HD either. WTF?

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious here. One guy told me once that there were two kinds of Xbox saves, and some could transfer, and some couldn't. I have no idea if this is actually true.

Little Help?

I think it was true...any how

The memory cards are mostly used to transport data between 2 Xbox's for play. So, this way you can take your Halo data to your buddies house.

Tell your boss that you require Steel Battalion to properly test the Xbox's "kickassability" and Dolby 6.9 features.

I didn't even know the xbox had memory cards for a long time.. then I noticed the slots on the controller one day and thought 'hmmmmm..'.. And I play games constantly! LOL Shows how much they're needed imho :P

I have limited experience with the memory card, and only for Tiger Woods 2003.

From what I remember, there were two objects on the HD for TW 2003. One of them it wouldn't let me copy (which is the one I thought I should copy, as I just wanted to use my profile on a buddy's Xbox). The other one would copy. If I remember correctly, the games are like rows in a spreadsheet. Within each row there are multiple icons depending on the game. For TW it was the indented Icon I couldn't copy, but the first one to appear (which is the 'global' save I guess) would let me copy it.

That must copy everything though as I was able to use my profile on my buddy's Xbox.

Not exactly what you're looking for but I'm not sitting in front of my Xbox right now so it's the best I can do :)

You are correct sir. If you look on the back of the game case, it will tell you if it uses the memory card. I got one because I wanted to transfer my DOAX data from one xbox to another. Turns out developers have to mark data to be transferred or it won't. Makes sense for games whose saves are larger than 8 megs, but why can't I move my DOAX data??? It can't be larger than a meg!

Glad I bought the card used. Jeez, that's dumb. Why offer the damn things if they are hobbled, and nowhere near as functional as the industry standard?

They cost as much as competitors cards, but do waaaay less!

That should be on the box!

:hmm:

The only reason someone would buy a memory card is if they were bringing there xbox live account to play on there friends xbox that has xbox live but with a different account.

heh heh - as if MS doesn't have enough problems marketing the system as it is - good thing you don't work there :D

That is disturbing news though. Why they didn't let you transfer anything to your memory card is beyond me. For all the hype about how great the hard drive is, not having portable saves can be a pain for those of us who don't intend to sign up for Live ever.

DOAX Are you speaking of Dead or Alive 3 or the Volleyball game?

If you can't use it with DOA3 I would suspect it was because they had a promotion where you could download extra outfits on certain Xbox mag demo disks. They may not have wanted any other way for you to obtain these. Just a guess and a bad one at that but hey its the best I could come up with.

It's the Volleyball game. There are a few games that are like this. Relatively simple save data (Rallisport and Gunvalkyrie are two off the top of my head) but no ability to save to a memory card. It's printed on the back of newer boxes thanks to the data box that are on xbox games now, so you can at least see whether the game you want to buy supports it.

When you use the dashboard to copy saved games to a memory card, when your on the game you want press right to select the actualy saved game. This threw me for a while. When you have the game selected on the left the xbox will only let you delte everything. I didnt realize you had to press right and thought you could only delete stuff to save space :-)

But it's true, some games don't allow the data to be copied to a memory card. I think DOAX is one of those games. I'm not sure about panzer, if it does you just have to copy the save to the hdd in the dashboard before playing the game.

I use mine everyday, to copy my Morrowind game so i can play on either of my xboxs, it's also a way to use your xbox live account on another xbox. You dont even have to copy it, just insert the memory card into the 2nd slot on the controller and live games will see the account. This is good, because you dont have to put your account on a friends xbox. It goes home with you.

So the xbox memory card is useful, to me its priceless.

It seems like I read something from the developers of DOAX that they didn't include that to prevent people from cheating.

For example, you save up a million bucks to buy the Venus, save that game file on your memory card & try to give the Venus to a girl. As we all know, she's likely to throw it in the trash, so when she does, you reload your save from the card to try again or give it to another girl.

As it is now, it's impossible to cheat like that with everything saving to the HD. That is unless someone has figured out a way around it since I was playing the game a few months ago.

I guess Tecmo wanted gamers to earn their rewards the old-fashioned way.

Righteo! By buying an Action Replay or Game Shark LOL

IMO they should be less concerned about me 'cheating' and more concerned with making me happy (by letting me bring my stuff to my buddies).
