I just picked up a generic S-Video cable for my Gamecube today at Goodwill for $5. Isn't there some kind of button configuration you have to press in order for it to work, like holding down certian buttons on the controller when you power the GC up? I think I remember reading something on the boards here like that a while ago but couldn't find the thread.

That's for getting progressive scan with component cables, not S-video. Your safe.

If you're having trouble getting your Svideo to work, try this: Some TVs have both S-video and Composite input, but will only accept one or the other. If you have something plugged into the Composite, the TV will default to composite even if there's no signal coming through. But before you unplug the composite, try just hitting 00 or pressing the AV button again. Some TVs will toggle between the two this way. Otherwise you'll have to unplug the composite cable for it to work.

That is the most useful S-Video cable I own! One cable for SNES, N64, and GC. My world would be a perfect place if the Super 8 worked with S-Video.

If you have a newer TV. you should have channels AV1, AV2, S-Vid....you want to put your TV on S-VID channel....the others will show up, but usually in Black And White

What I really like to do is hook my S-Video into my PC and play it on my computer monitor and put it out through my r0><0r 5.1 sound system. Too bad it's not true surround sound...but it's still better than what I have on a TV. The only problem I have is with Animal Crossing - they do some weird things with the brightness in that game and I have to fiddle with the HSB to make it look right.

It's also great for video-capture stuff too which can be fun - watching your battle with the Omega Pirate on instant replay and stuff :)

One of these days I want to check out Prime in progressive scan though. Anyone here tried it?

Outstanding. The game looks unreal. You've never really seen the game until you've seen it this way

I can second that, on the progressive scan note. In fact, the progressive scan games on the Cube are so above and beyond the other Cube games, that if a game doesn't have progressive scan, then I avoid it.

Luckily, all the big titles are progressive scan, so it isn't too bad.

Is there a button configuration for using the composite cable? I just got one that I ordered directly from Nintendo and there were no instructions whatsoever.

It mentions this in the Metroid Prime manual, but it appears that if the game you're running can use progressive scan AND you have the cable hooked up, you can activate it by holding down the B button while the G logo is on the screen (while it's booting, essentially).

Thanks for the help. I've noticed today that there are games that are not marked like Eternal Darkness.
