I spotted a SNES game at a local game store called Metal Warriors for the SNES that I have never seen before. What is the deal with this game? It is fairly rare, I guess. Is it actually a good game? If it is I will go back there tomorrow to buy it. Thanks!

BTW- It's a Konami game:)

Its a fun game. Kind of like a Granzort, or Eternal City (PCE games)

The music is pretty cool. I liked the bass lines in the game.

PS: Go get it!

Thanks Arkhan! The store clerk and me watched a You-Tube video of it in the store, and it kinda reminded me of Blaster Master except with mechs. I think I will buy it.

It's VERY similar to Cybernator (SNES) which is a fun game.

Wow, I should've posted this over at PCFX. LOL

From what I have seen on You-Tube the graphics look really good.

The first time I played it... I thought it was a bootleg game, because a lot of the graphics seem ripped off Cybernator.

I never owned nor played Cybernator, so I probably won't notice.

BTW- It's a Konami game:)

It was published by Konami, but developed by LucasArts. Very much influenced by Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken. Cool gameplay, ho-hum level design. According to an interview at Sega-16, it was built on the game engine of "Zombies Ate My Neighbors". Personally, I'd never have guessed by the looks of it.

An adequate description of the game can be found in the article focusing on the Assault Suit series, @ Hardcore Gaming 101:

It is a semi-rare game. But its definately a great game, I played it to death when it came out originally. The split screen 2 player VS mode is especially fun in that old school way...You can waste hours without realizing it.

MW carts were being asked $100+ for some time back on the 'bay. Things look better now, but it's still a pretty expensive cartridge. I almost never see the complete game listed, so that might fetch yet more.

I've never heard of Cybernator, so considering how much I loved Metal Warriors, I should check that out sometime.

This was pretty much my favorite sidescrolling mecha game ever, and I've been trying to hunt down a copy for a long time.

I had kind of assumed that it was vaguely Gundam-inspired when I played it.. The Nitro suit has very Gundam-esque gameplay, the Havoc has Dom hovering, there's a Guntank with legs, the mid-boss mecha with wings looks a lot like the Quin Mantha from ZZ Gundam, and the final boss looks a bit like a mobile armor with funnels like the Alpha Azieru or something.

I guess it could have been a coincidence.. But the entire game struck me as what a Gundam sidescroller should have been like.

OK OK, both games are good.

I'll just say that Metal Warriors has somewhat better gameplay, while Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken has a better story.

Giant robots ahoy!

The cinemas in MW are astounding! But, the gameplay hasn't yet dragged me in. Don't know if I am going to hang onto this one. I collect moreso to play my games, and less about them looking good (and rare) on my shelf.

This. The single-player experience is alright, but the multiplayer is among the best the SNES has to offer. Intense mech vs. mech combat, and even some destructible environments!
