Moving large gaming collection cross country - advice

So my gf and I are pulling up our shingle and moving from Vermont to Chicago in a month and a half, and while planning the move, the most delicate thing (aside from china) seems to be my gaming collection.

My collection comprises 13 consoles (jaguar / Neo Geo AES and CD / Saturn / 3DO / Wii / PS2 / PS3 / PC-FX / Duo-R / Dreamcast / 360 / PS1) and about 150 games total.

I don't have the original box for the Duo-R / Dreamcast / 3DO / Jag / AES / PS1, but all my games are in their original cases.

I know the obvious advice is pack the living shit out of the them with bubble wrap, ect ect

But has anyone actually moves their gaming collection XC? I am concerned about jewel case cracking, systems arriving DOA, ect ect.

Call me paranoid, but any advice out there? It would be appreciated

Follow standard safe packing procedures and you'll be fine. Don't use packing peanuts with loose items :P

Just pack it like you don't want a paypal dispute, and you should be ok. For jewel cases find out how people ship their cd collections, even for longbox jewel cases the same method should work.

Whenever I move, something always gets dropped. Make sure you can throw the box accross the driveway without damaging the contents. Also, watch out for excessive heat. If you are driving a moving truck through the sun in the middle of the summer, it might get hot in the enclosed compartment.

For systems with optical drives in them, you might want to do like new CD players do and put a little round piece of cardboard inside the tray that will immobilize the laser. Or just put something between the gaps on either side of the laser assembly. In case they get banged around in the back of a truck, you'll want those traditionally moving parts to move as little as possible so you don't strip motor gears or damage anything potentially unfixable.

Buy a crapload of rubber maid tubs like this one here http://www.hphoofcare.com/bin.jpg I've used them countless times to move games, systems and accessories and I've never had anything break on me yet. If you find that you can't fill a container just trow a blanket or sweater in the top of it so nothing is moving around inside. The tubs have handles on the side so you don't have to worry about dropping them as much.

if humidity is a concern, you could get those packs of silica gel.

Well, you should get them packed in bubblewrap (Not peanuts. Peanuts is a great dog, but not so great a packing material) and put them in a box that is not too big or small. Also, try to get alot of smaller boxes instead of bigger ones, otherwise you may stress yourself lifting and the box may collapse.

Do this and you should have a great move. Keep on gaming!

If you have room I would take your most valuable games out of the collection and box those seperately and pack them in your car.

Everything will be in my "car"...we might rent a SUV, but everything will be in my possession

I will also be packing my rare games up seperately, and keeping good track of them

thanks for the advice everyone. Guess I was just stressing about making sure everything went from VT to Chicago in the same shape I packed it in
