I'm wondering if there's a source for these, because I need some replacements. They aren't standard jewel cases, nor are they longboxes like the first wave of titles in the U.S. got. They're thicker than they need to be, with rounder edges, and to my knowledge were exclusive to the first few waves of Japanese PS1 games. I'll post a pic for reference if I can find one.

Unless you go to Japan and buy up cheap copies of old pachinko PS1 games in the fat cases, I think you'll have a really tough time finding them (as if that isn't difficult enough!).

When ever I need cases I buy cheap games, mostly palor and sports titles CIB. If you can find a sports bundle its even better. Keep the cases then sell the rest.

Go check out hit-japan on ebay. Just make a best offer on all the cheap games you see with that type of case. 10 games shipped from them is $27 and you could get quite a few for a dollar, they accept best offers on all items.

So for 10 cases you are looking at $37-$47. Roughly $4 per case, if you sell the games for half of what you paid or less your looking at in total out of pocket aroud $20.

I do this all the time with Sega CD and Saturn games.

As much as I'd love to, going to Japan's out of the question.

This has all led me to wonder if there's a listing for what games came in the fat cases, similar to the U.S. PS1 longbox lists I've seen. I can name four off the top of my head: Gradius Deluxe Pack, Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus, Sexy Parodius and Gunners Heaven.

Excellent, I'm going to see about scoring a deal like this ASAP. Thanks!

Which games were you missing the case for by the way or were they just damaged?

Keep in mind that there are two different types of larger cases in Japan: one with "Playstation" stamped on the black-plastic piece of the case and one that looks like a "perfectly" square jewel case. This particular style comes with a disc slot on both the part that opens and in the regular spot. Manuals kind of just sit in both types.

Since there aren't really any pictures out there of empty cases, search eBay for a look. The original Persona comes in the first type and Biohazard: Director's Cut comes in the other.

Just damaged. Luckily it was just the case and nothing else.

Didn't Symphony of the Night come in one of the square cases? It's been a while since I've seen a copy, but I seem to recall that it did.

Yup, it does. See here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dracula-X-Playstation-PSX-Import-Castlevania-/350194288542?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Vintage_Video_Games&hash=item518934c79e

I have a JP copy of Beyond the Beyond and it has a special case like that.

I also have a JP copy of Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22 and I can confirm that this one does NOT have the special case, even though it came out in 1995 as well.
