now tht e3 is packed up and gone it's easy to see who won e3. no not zelda ss. that's for grandma silly rabbit. i'm talking about 3DS. after watching the tendo press conference i was soo jazzed about 3ds!!

it renewed a fresh interest in gaming. this could be the biggest revolution in gaming since mario 64. the next step. it can play 3d movies, 3d video chat, motion sensing and gyroscope control, 3d camera and lots of other cool stuff.

graphics wise i was blown away! very very impressive. this is not just a new handheld, this is a new console. when i first saw the trailer for kid icarus i thought it was a wii game but when i found out it was for 3ds imo it stole the show. this game will be the "mario" of 3ds. it will be the killer app and will sell the system. i bet they even offer a kid icarus 3ds bundle. if 3ds hits this holiday it will own the holidays! the launch will be treated like proper console launch.

back to the yummy graphics... some developers working with the 3ds have expressed that it is near to on par with 360/ps3 without 3d enabled...pretty freakin awsome :) if you ask me. looking at early shots of res evil 3d, sf4 and doa 3d and they look very close to the console versions.

check out this quick list of early games in dev. there is like 80 or more games announced so far.

zelda oot 3d
kid icarus
mario kart
res evil 3d(re5 based)
ninja gaiden 3d

I'm extremely impressed by the 3DS and tremendously excited for its launch.

But as for Kid Icarus being a system-seller? No way. 99.9% of gamers today, don't have a clue who Pit is.

Agreed. Nintendogs\Cats will be a bigger system seller at launch time.

I mentioned Kid Icarus to someone at work today and they were only vaguely aware of the game...mainly through Captain N. And this was a "Nintendo generation" guy who plays games(albeit modern) more than I do.

Kid Icarus was one of my favorite games mainly because I was really into Greek mythology. The vertical levels were a little cumbersome as I fell to my death countless times but I really liked the theme so I stuck with it and found the game very satisfying. My friends, however, weren't too into the game, they preferred the sci-fi feel of Metroid and felt Kid Icarus was too much of a pain to bother with. Subsequently Kid Icarus developed a great cult following but never a large one. I just can't see it as a big system seller.

In any case, the 3DS looks great and has what appears to be a good number of quality 1st and 3rd party games being developed for it. I'm really interested in the Resident Evil game.....going down a long dark hallway in 3D with who knows what ready to jump out of any door, racing down the hallway towards you sounds awesome.

I don't think it matters that most people didn't play the older Kid Icarus games. Most Nintendo fans have played Super Smash Bros Brawl. So yeah. I think it'll be a system seller from how many people liked Pit in the game.

Anyways. I think Nintendo wants to make sure they get their new system off the ground and threw some major cash for developers to push their best rated franchises onto the system. The Wii prints money so they have enough to spare.

I won't be able to experience the 3d effect. But even knowing that, I'm excited about it.

Nothing much really raises my interest currently as far as known 3rd party titles go, but it appears to have an impressive slate of 1st party titles that will be making it's way to the handheld over it's first year of life. And no doubt there will be some great 3rd party releases to experience as well.

I am planning on getting one at launch. Unlike the Wii, the third party support looks promising, even at launch. I see Nintendo's grasp on the handheld market tightening.

No one had a clue what Halo was when it first came out either... Regardless, A good game is a good game and being a 1st party Nintendo game you know its gonna be great and they are gonna promote it like crazy;)

Most newer games, remakes and reboots I don't care for. Needless to say I was a bit curious when I heard a new Kid Icarus was announced but certainly didn't get excited at all. But dear God... how could anyone not get excited after seeing the trailer? I looks freakin' AWESOME!

On another note it seems like I am one of the few people that got a Virtual Boy when they first came out, loved it then and still loves it now. I have never had any issues regarding headaches or anything. I can't tell people how many hours I spent playing Wario Land, Galactic Pinball, and Red Alarm. I will have to wait and see a 3DS in person, but if it has 3D anywhere near as good as the Virtual Boy then I will have to get one!

Is there anything online that can give an idea of what the 3DS 3d effect will look like? Its hard for me to imagine how the 3d will look.

Wow...it took 15 years, but the Virtual Boy is finally obsolete! :)

Promoting a game like crazy doesn't make it good. Usually the oppisite. I don't think it will have the same fill. Most of people who are gonna play it and be like "Oh my god a Kid Icarus game, he's from SSB" were not around when the original was new. When it was new it was the shit. Right next to Zelda and Metroid. Also I think after the hype it will just be another action game that will get lost in the mix.

I think it should have been a supped up 2d platformer with 3 dimentional parts. They've been doing the for Mario for the last year and they've been fun. That would have kept the original feel more than this. Anyone remeber Castlevania 64? What happend?

Now the 3ds I will be getting day 1. Sound amazing.

The advantage of Kid Icarus is the word "Icarus". Anyone who likes mythology will be familiar with the name and will get a picture of what the game will be about (and that'll be largely right). Super Mario Land I think was a very good game because all the levels were styled after familiar places - Egypt, Future Waterworld, Easter Island, China. It didn't really need much explanation.

Pilotwings is a launch buy for me. It works great in 3D.

So far the screenshots look vaguely on-par with PS2 graphics, but I haven't seen anything that looks on the level of a PS3 or 360 as some people have been saying.

How does the actual 3d work without special graphics?

UniHamachi

The 3DS draws each frame twice, one for the right eye, and another for the left. Each frame displyed via a lenticular lens so it is seen by one eye at a time when you have your head in the sweet spot. There's a slider to adjust the amount of parallax to your comfort (it can go to zero so you can play games in 2D). If don't have your head in the sweet spot, you'll start seeing double and the image will blur.

So whatever the framerate and resolution is for a game, it's doubled to view it in 3D plus the overhead to calculate parallax in each frame. The lower res screen helps a lot.

They're using the same technology for 3D TV without glasses:

So it IS the Virtual Boy 2.

Pretty much. Although the 3DS needs batteries, so advantage Virtual Boy.
