part 2 of my youtube baseball series

baseball games on the genesis in general tried to 'out real' each other.
these home run trots just arent as exciting as the nes games were.
the trot in world series baseball 95 was especially bad,
it took over 30 seconds for the man to slowly run around the bases.
i had to cheat and triple the video speed to keep the video under the 10 minute youtube limit.

i think my favorites are tommy lasorda, sports talk and world series baseball.
unsurprisingly, these are all sega first party titles

thoughts?

Great video - brought back a many fond memories. I love when that kid is dangling over the fence to make the catch of that one blast.

Like the NES video, very well done.

I've only played a handful of these games but the original World Series Baseball was a favorite of mine.

Favorite animation: Triple Play Gold. I liked how the fan went over the fence to catch the ball, little touches like that are fun to see.

Least favorite animation: Roger Clemens' MVP Baseball. Hated the smiling earth graphic watching the ball sail into outer space.

Great video. My favorite baseball games for Genesis are Tommy Lasorda and Sports Talk, both very solid titles. Didn't care for the "catcher" angle of World Series Baseball though.

in triple play, there is a constant spitting animation by the pitcher with a 'petch" sound effect. i used that with all the ea title screens

roger clemens did have a cut scene where if the visiting team hit a home run, the crowd threw the ball back onto the field. i used that at the end of the credits

Awesome video! One of the best things I've seen in quite some time.

I miss Hardball! Best baseball series ever.

Awesome, I used to play the crap out of baseball games on the Genesis. Neat to see the point where they switched from hand-drawn cartoonish drawing to the 'digitized' stuff to compete with CD games. At the time I never noticed, but now it sticks out like a thumb.

Nice video. That sure did bring back a lot of memories. My personal favorite was the first World Series Baseball but I played quite a few of those games back in the day. :)

i agree, the game was mediocre and choppy, but the homerun trot was great. i also liked the music for the tecmo super baseball trot.

I seem to remember there being signs for Little Caesar's Pizza on the fence in Baseball Tonight. Anyone else remember this?

Looks like Baseball Tonight does have the ads for Little Caesar's. They're in left and right field closer to the foul lines, which is why I didn't see them in the video.

I believe I told this story many years ago, but it's appropriate here. I rented Cal Ripken Jr.'s baseball from a video store. I brought it home, set up a season, I can't remember if I played as the Orioles, or if it allowed fantasy drafting...either way, I had Cal on my team.

First pitch of the first game, a ball bounces to Cal at Shortstop. He takes one step over, falls down with a broken leg, and is out for the season. Of course, this was still during the time he was going for the streak. Angry programmer? Perhaps.
