Anyone else suffer after sepending a certain amount of time to build up your levels in a rpg and you're heading to save, only to have your system freeze and you loose everything?!

I've done that...or accidently bump reset, or someone trips over your cord and system glitches out.

Doesn't it get you mad....I try to save games at regular intervals now

Not quite the same, but I had logged about 50 hours on Final Fantasy VII, then stopped playing for about two months. I always save the last three saves in different files so I can go back to a previous save in case I used or lost an item that I needed later, etc. I went back and all three save files would not load. The other saves on the Sony brand memory card were fine. I just deleted the bad FF7 files and started over.

With young kids in the house I have had multiple game saves wiped out. To the point I will buy double the memory cards to duplicate game saves.

Yeah, and that kind of situation is a shit...

I had this happen to me with Resident Evil for the PS1. I played a long time since my last save too. I have not played the game since because of it. Or any version of the game.

I've had Skies of Arcadia GC lock up on me during battle a couple of times as the read head gets confused where to load the magic data from. Fortunately I'd not lost a huge amount of play time from either...

I have been lucky about not losing RPG saves, at least for my consoles (emulated is another matter >:( ).

However when I first got my PSOne, the game my parents bought with it was FF8. It was the only game I had for that system for 2 weeks, and I had NO memory cards yet. All it took was one death and I would be sent back to the beginning. Compounding that was the fact that FF8 was my first experience playing an RPG at all, so death was a frequent occurence. :(

I took my copy of Secret of Mana over to a friend's house, oh so many years ago, and her little brother was messing with the "reset" button on the SNES. On and off, on and off, on and...."Holy fuck, my saves!!" I was extremely close to the end, somewhere wandering in the mana fortess....had to start all over and I was piss. Other then that, never had any problems with cd based games...

Worse than that, what I REALLY hate is when you play the old games that gave you codes, and you'd write down the million symbol code, then go back to input it later and it didn't work for whatever reason (even when you KNEW you copied it down right!) Metroid pisses me off this way among others.

But yeah, nothing will stop me from playing an RPG like losing a save. >:( >:(

O_O Suddenly, your story took a bizarre turn.

I think the only RPG for which I've ever lost a save was my cousin's copy of Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, which I was playing one summer. I blame it on the fact that my cousin kept resetting the game constantly because he figured out that the stat boosts from gaining levels were random and he only wanted the highest increases. Such were the lengths we went to back in the 16-bit days, when about three decent RPGs were released per year.

You know, I've never been able to get a single password from Golvellius (SMS) to work. I'm starting to wonder if my copy is defective, and can't generate codes correctly. I've been able to use passwords from other sources, which is weird.

The only time something went wrong when I was playing Neutopia. I was in the middle of the 4th or 5th level and I went to get the password(I don't have the turbo booste plus)and I shut the system off after I'm done.Later on,I turn on my Tg-16 with Neutopia inside and I enter the password from where i last saved from, and then I start playing until I see that something isn't right with the game.To my surprise, Almost all of my items dissapered from my list and when I tried to enter the 4th or 5th level, I couldn't get in because the stairs dissapeared.I got so mad at the game and wondered why it did this.I did however, retrived a different password and continued from the same place but, with all the items I had before the game got messed up.

Havent had much data erased, but once, I lent my good friend my memory card ( all in all I probably had 3-400 hours in RPG saves on it), well, he lost my memory card, this was like 3 month ago, hasnt turned up yet, I have not, and will not bother to get my data back, I had saves from FF7,8,9, tactics, vagrant story, and legend of mana, all gone. Talk about being pissed.

Well I didn't realise that the battery in a Saturn was related to the on-board saved game memory as well as storing the clock settings so when I recently replaced the battery I was rather surprised to find my saves for numerous games gone. :(

When I had a 3rd party Saturn memory card (Memory Card Plus), I had a complete Panzer Dragoon Saga save, a long Shining The Holy Ark Save, a save for Dragon Force at the end of the game, and a save for Albert Odyssey at the end of the game. Took the card out to move the Saturn, and when I put it back in, all saves were GONE! We're talking hundreds of hours here too...I was so pissed I broke that shitty card in half and bought an official Sega one.

Geez, if you observe a lot of the posts in this topic, you can say the following:

>:( Never. Buy. Third. Party. Memory. Cards!!! >:(
Never! Ever! lend memory cards out.
Never hit reset multiple times.

I've lost numerous saved games on the DW titles for some oddball reason over the years.

Recently was playing PSIV and doing a round of level uping. Had 3-4 more fights before getting Chaz's level up then I'd save. Game decided to freeze there and lost everything. :(

Amen to that. When the N64 just came out, I was playing Quest64 (or whatever that lame "my first RPG" was) and I bought a 3rd party card, but everytime I turned off the N64, the card wiped and I had to start all over. That was my first and LAST experience with third party ANYTHING to do with video games. >:(

Yeah....I learned my lesson there the hard way...but I NEVER buy 3rd party stuff anymore. NEVER!

I've got you all beat. Back in the hay-day of the PSOne, I never bothered finishing any game that didnt have 'FF' in the acronym. Such games including: Castlevania: SOTN, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, FFV, Vagrant Story, Suikoden, MGS, you name it. So, I go get a PS2. 3rd party 'Mega Memory Card'... *pfft* entire thing wiped, including all my Final Fantasy saves in various stages of all 4 games (7, 8, 9, Tactics). Man, I was pissed.

Yes, with the only two games I have with such a "save" feature- Lord of the Dungeon for the ColecoVision, and Dragon Warrior for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

I suspect the latter is due to a weak battery, although maybe the fact that you have to jiggle it to get rid of the infamous "blue flashing" might have something to do with it, since when I purchased it at a second-hand store there were two games saved on it.

Lord of the Dungeon was due to a weak battery. If you don't play it frequently, it lasts maybe 8 months or so. Also, the power connection has to be nearly perfect, or the game glitches up. This isn't as hard to deal with as you might think; it's not too difficult to tell if the connection is good enough, and if you don't want to play, just plug it in for a couple of hours, a couple of times a week.
