1. Whats a good beginner mix?
From what I heard 5th is good. But the game is insanely tough
2. What are some good songs?

Best mix for beginners is 3rd. Most of my friends can pass all the 1-stars on 3rd (except Tangerine Stream, which became a 2-star anyway). They usually fail Beginner Mode songs. 3rd is easier overall...I can count the 7key mode songs in 3rd Style I can't beat on one hand.

Good lord this game is good. I used to play DDR several hours a day, but now it's more like one round every few weeks thanks to this game.
