There are many, many threads on this already, as I'm sure you can guess.

The CD expansion is ABSOLUTELY worth getting, along with at least a Super CD 3.0 card. You are missing out on the majority of the TG-16/PC Engine line-up and some AAA games (Lords of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Gradius II, Star Parodier, Ys Books I&II, Ys III, etc.) if you don't get the CD-ROM! You can play Japanese CD and Super CD games without modification if you get a Super CD 3.0 card.

A few great TG-16 HuCard games are the three Bonk's Adventure games, Air Zonk, Blazing Lasers, Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, Bloody Wolf, R-Type, Bomberman, Bomberman '93, Galaga '90, Alien Crush, Devil's Crush, and many, many more...

*cough, cough

Bonk's Adventure
Bonk's Revenge
Air Zonk
Bloody Wolf
Ninja Spirit
Legendary Axe
Super Star Soldier
Soldier Blade
Neutopia
Neutopia II
Bomberman
Bomberman '93
Dead Moon
R-Type
Sidearms
Cadash
Somer Assault

*gasp (CD expansion)
Ys I&II
Ys III
Monster Lair
Exile
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Last Alert
Final Zone 2

and....(Super CD expansion
Cotton Dynastic Hero Gate of Thunder LegendofHeroesDragonSlayer

*WHEW!

That should be enough for starters. ;)

Fair warning....turbo is an expensive bunch. Some rarer stuff (Air Zonk, Ys, Cotton, Dynastic Hero, etc.) will gobble up an arm and a leg easy. If empty wallets aren't your things, then the Wii VC is a very affordable alternative. Hope that helps. Enjoy your the Turbo.

I recommend picking up Splatterhouse ASAP, which should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone here. Also, Ninja Spirit is an absolute must have.

Man, must we go through this at least once a month? haha..

Next will be questions about the system cards and if you can play japanese games on the american system, and what problems the consoles have, and which ones are more prone than others and and and.. ROFL

I'm just gonna create a huge FAQ about the console, and all the recommended games, save it on my HD, and when anyone posts about it I will just copy and pasta haha..

My first suggestion: If you find TG-16 games in the wild, grab 'em if they aren't expensive. In my experience, I've found Turbografx-16 games ONCE, and that was at a Play N Trade when I bought my system. They're not entirely common, so if you find them somewhere, and they're cheap, pick 'em up.

My suggestions for HuCard titles:

Blazing Lazers (One of my favorite shooters, ever.)
Bonk's Adventure (Bonk was the mascot of the TG16. Great platformer and well worth it to track down.)
Bonk's Revenge (Great sequel to a great series)
Veigues: Tactical Shooter (Giant robot 2D rail-shooter.)
Tiger Road (Capcom sidescroller that's very hard.)
Cyber Core (Shooter. Buy it, dammit!)
Legendary Axe II (Like LA1? Get this!)
Space Harrier (Almost as good as the 32x version, which means it's almost as good as the arcade version)
Alien Crush (One of the great Pinball games for the TG16.)
Devil's Crush (Excellent pinball game, like Alien Crush)

Those are what I own. Here's a few I don't own but I still have played through various sources (Emulators, Virtual Console, Other collectors)

Shock Man (Mega Man-like)
Aero Blasters (Great shooter. Pretty much on-par with the Genesis version)
Bomberman (It's Bomberman. Get a TurboTap and four extra controllers)

And these are the titles to avoid (HuCard):

Falcon (A flight sim. Not too fun on the TG16.)
Cadash (A good port of the arcade title. One problem: It's unforgiving. One death and it's back to the title screen)
Double Dungeons (Just... Don't. Ever.)
Drop Off (Boring. Boring and rare. Apparently)
China Warrior (Your character's sprite takes up the entire screen, as do the enemies. Delayed combat. Avoid)

I don't own a CD attachment, sadly. Too expensive. If anyone can suggest the best way to get a TG16 CD attachment, I'd appreciate it, because I can't seem to find one for cheap. As it stands, the CD attachment would probably cost more than what I paid for my console AND games combined.

Cadash should not be on the avoid list. That is an excellent game. If you spend a lot of time at the beginning powering up your guys the rest of the game is a breeze.

I spent hours killing orcs in the first level of Cadash to level up my character. It does get easier after leveling but I still needed and emu and save states to beat it.

See, when I've played that game with other people, it's always been "Oh fuck, we both died. Welp, let's go play Bomberman."

I've always liked it, though. It's just a pain. For a game like that, you shouldn't need to grind for an hour on the first level.

there is no such thing as a bad PCE/TG game.

Some are just not as good as others.

Buy anything you see. It'll probably be good.

this includes the CD add on.
