I'm an 1984 child so my systems are SMS, NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, Saturn, N64, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube. All which I own in different versions. Now I'm moving to collecting games and I wanted to have at least the top 25 for every system I own. I know this is very varied, I've looked at reviews, lists, etc. Also personal opinion, preference and life experience influences. But I wanted to know what you guys though. Just to have a better sense of direction, lately I've just been snatching up everything I can on eBay and I've ended with very odd lots. I think that once I have a definite list I'll do better.

Gosh, no one on this board has ever contemplated making such a list before. What an original idea. :hmm:

It's obvious it has come up before, but i thought it would be better to write about my experience than bump an old thread or not participate at all. It would very hard to find undiscussed themes in such an old board. Same goes with pictures, It's pretty much impossible to impress this crowd. In the boards that I'm more tenured at what I do is that when a newer member posts something I'm not interested in, I just don't reply to it instead of trying to embarrass him. That being said, thanks for the links.

I've been doing the same thing for a while, in a way. It's a given that even for our favorite systems, at least half the total game library is not worth owning, let alone spending time playing. Everyone involved in this hobby needs to figure out a method of focus that works for themselves and their aims. Broadly, you can cut out entire generations or specific platforms from consideration. And then work your way down to more detailed and specific qualities.

If you just want to just see a list, the "top" threads work well enough. But if you want to discuss how to do so much for your own personal stash and collecting goals, it's a whole new bag. Was that closer to what you're after?

I have been collecting the top-tier games for all the older systems and let me tell you, it is a difficult task to compile all the top games for their repective systems. I used several websites, mostly DP, but a few others:
http://www.videogamecritic.net
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/03/best-undiscovered-nintendo-nes-games.html
http://www.sega-16.com/reviews.php?sys=Genesis

...I am sure there are tons of other sites I can remember

Best of luck and post all your lists so I can compare.

I'm really into N64 right now so I'll post my top 25. In no particular order and just from what I have gathered all over the net and my personal preference. Also there's games that might not be good but they are rare or so weird and unique to the system that I have to have them. So it's not just a Top Rated game list.

Donkey Kong 64,
Super Mario 64,
Mario Party,
Resident Evil 2,
Ogre Battle 64,
Mario Golf,
Mario Tennis,
Super Smash Bros,
Paper Mario,
Mario Kart 64,
Ocarina Of Time,
Majora's Mask,
GoldenEye,
Perfect Dark,
WWF No Mercy,
Banjo Kazooie,
Banjo-Tooie,
Hybrid Heaven,
Star Fox 64,
Shadow Of The Empire,
Rayman 2,
Turok 2,
Pilotwings 64,
Conker's Bad Fur Day,
Hey You, Pikachu!

I got most of the games on this list.

I got the regular console with the Atomic Purple Controller.
A Jungle Green Console with the Expansion Pack so I don't have to switch back and forth. DK Banana Controller, SuperPad Controller, Hori Mini Pad, Mad Catz Joystick.
Resisting the temptation of getting a Pikachu console.

That list needs some Goemon and Mischief Makers badly.

Are you saying that you can't say if it's good or not or if you don't know how to play it? How would you not know how to play a platformer?

It's really odd. I got it, I was brezzing thru it, but you grab the guys you chuck them at the buildings you get the star and youre done. I gave it like 5 minutes of attention to be frank, maybe it deserves a second look. I'm getting so many games in, I only have time to check if they work.
