I tried searching for a similar topic, but nothing popped up, so I apologize if this has been asked before.

What exactly do you get with Playstation Plus (year or the three month subcriptions)?

I saw some of the items...free Wipeout HD, a free PSOne game, Mini, etc. Do I get free, different games every month? I heard that in the UK, a member gets a free game per month, a free PSOne game, a free mini, and so forth.

Also, I saw some games had discounts, like MK2 and Rampart.

But something scares me:

-Special Offers: Get special offers on Playstation Store including free game downloads, discounts on games and add-ons, early access to select demos and games, and exclusive Playstation Plus offers. Free games and add-ons are yours to keep and play the entire time you are a Playstation Plus subscriber unless otherwise noted.

Does this mean that if I decide to cancel my subcription, all games I originally purchased will no longer be valid? That I no longer have rights to play, and thus, be eliminated from my console?

If this is so, this is terrible, as I believe that once I pay for something, it's forever mine.

Any ideas?

Plus is literally a leasing option. Once your sub is up, you lose the ability to play said stuff.

Scam situation if you ask me. You can the extra money and just keep the content.

I don't think Sony thought it out when it comes to PSX games and Minis on your PSP. If you get a free PSX game and Mini every month, then what's stopping you to keeping those games on another device such as your PC. Then later on transfering those same titles to your PSP.

It's not like it's known to the PSP whether PSN Plus has ended or not, since it's only tied to your PS3. However, I'm sure that if you download the game and transfer it to your PSP after the PSN Plus has expired, then it won't work on your PSP since it'll be transfered over as already expired.

Still. $50 a year, regardless of free content is something I don't care for. You're getting more than $50 worth of PSX and Minis which with my idea would allow you to keep those, but it's all DLC. DLC sucks.

We already get free online play on the PS3. Cross game chat is nice but it's currently not included even on PSN Plus, and it's not worth paying $50 a year for.

I would assume that if you paid for the game at the discounted PSN+ price, then you'd be able to keep the game regardless if you continue the service or not. The free content will more than likely deactivate when you subscription ends and reactivates when you renew it. I'd also assume that the free PSP games/content would deactivate when you eventually connect to the internet again and possibly even when you update the PSP.

I was talking to my buddy about the + service today and we both agree that we'd wait on it to see where it goes, that way money isn't wasted on something we'd never use. I think Sony is headed in the right direction, they aren't alienating anyone who doesn't want to pay $50 just to play on-line and are providing what seems to be a good service for people who want the perks the premium service provides.

Here's a good breakdown of what you get with the service and everything available day one:

Reading the comments that others posted, it's obvious that a lot of them don't know how to read or never took the time to read. $50 a year, not a month, so it's for the current month a possible $85 in savings and then 11 more, plus three free if you're an early subscriber to the PSN Plus.

I still don't think it's worth it though since after the PSN Plus ends you'll lose the games you've acquired for free. Sure you the free items for 15 months, but why if that's the case, why not just pick and choose instead and keep what you want.

Someone trying out the three month deal to see if you keep the free downloads after the three months? If you do, then $50 a year for free items on a regular basis is a great deal. If not, then really not worth it.

You lose the "free" games, but there are no penalties on the games/DLC obtained at a discount.

AND I assume that items like Avatars and Themes don't have expiration dates like the games.

Like all paid discount services, if you buy more than $50 of the discounted games within that year, there's a benefit.

And on top of that you get a subscription to Qore which is a $20 value.

I joined and I look forward to seeing what Sony does with the service in the future in addition to the free games and benefits that they're offering currently.

I might jump the boat for the PSN+, seems pretty good for the discounts. :P

I don't understand this part.

Do you mean that once I download the games, there are mine forever? Like on the Xbox 360? Or will I lose the free games I obtained, like for instance, Wipeout HD?

Because look what it says on the description taken on the PSN store:

-Special Offers: Get special offers on Playstation Store including free game downloads, discounts on games and add-ons, early access to select demos and games, and exclusive Playstation Plus offers. Free games and add-ons are yours to keep and play the entire time you are a Playstation Plus subscriber unless otherwise noted.

That tells me that everything I downloaded during the year I will loose (probably get deleted) since I am no longer a PSN Plus subscriber. Or does it mean I will loose the ability to download games for free since I am not a subscriber? I think it's the first option.

And on top of that you get a subscription to Qore which is a $20 value.

That I did not know. But doesn't Qore offer free games every now and then as well? I remember a "sample" issue of Qore and it said I can download certain free games if I was a subscriber.

I don't understand this...

Any of the "free" software will require you to remain a member. If you look at the game "info" it has an expiration date (they added that to PS3 and PSP game info a few firmwares back in preparation of something like this). If you renew your subscription for another year ... all that free software likely gets another year before it expires.

Now, if Qore gives something away for free in an issue, since Qore is NOT a PSN Plus dependent service, my guess is that it's free free with no expiry ... and they'll probably avoid crossing that software over with the Plus software as much as they can ... so if they're giving away a copy of High Velocity Bowling with Qore you probably won't see it in Plus that same month, hopefully if they keep their shit organized.

So, the FREE stuff with Plus is essentially leased ... but you're going to get way way more than $50 worth of free stuff on lease with the first year (+ three extra free months included) ... so, again, there's value in it all ... and if it's good and you renew it pays for itself. If you don't renew and you love that copy of Wipeout HD, pay out the $15 or whatever it costs and at the very least you likely don't have to sit through another 10 minute download (as it'll already be on your HDD).

AND ... if you got something on discount with the service they're not going to ask for that money back or charge you the extra if you don't renew ... so if you use it as JUST a discount service, again, more value there.

Hope that clears it up.

Thanks for clearing it up, Frankie. :)

That bites, though. At least on the Xbox 360, the games are mine to keep, even if I am no longer a Gold member. I don't know what's so wrong about keeping the game "permanently", like on the Xbox. Sony definitely screwed this one up quite badly.

Because of this, I've decided to reject the PSN Plus, until they finally let anything I download be actually mine (no expiration date).

The games you buy using the discount will be yours forever (as long as the network is supported, bla bla bla), the stuff that expires is the access to the 'monthly' free game(s) that PSN+ gives you. If there are enough PSN games offered through the discount that you may like, plus the access to the PSN+ games for the year, it would be 'worth it' in your eyes, then its not a total waste... just a partial.

Well, even though there's a similarly priced $50 subscription fee, and as tempting as it is to make the comparison between "services", the more I look at it, I'm not quite sure there's a genuine parity between XBL and PSN+

You can still buy games vis PSN and keep them with the Plus membership the same as you would via XBL, and most importantly, you don't even need to be a plus member to do so.

XBL doesn't really give away much of anything for free to keep game-wise ... much less three games per month, even in a leased capacity. (Yes, yes, Yaris, Doritos Dash, Aegis Wing and Totem Ball are not forgotten)

Furthermore, if you DON'T pay $50 per year with XBL, you can't play games online with other members, and you'll wind up with limitations on what demos you can download and when.

So, if anybody is giving users the short end of the stick in a side-by-side comparison ... it seems to be Microsoft, and with Sony you can pass on the Plus service and not get shafted in terms of online gameplay options.

That's not to say that I'm not a card-carrying member of XBLA ... I see good value in both services, but man, if you're not going gold with Live, there's not much you're doing on the service ... PLUS is exactly that, an added value package ... Gold seems to be standard access ... and Silver is a second class citizen of XBL.

1 year Xbox Live Gold cards are $29.99 on Amazon all the time. Anyone who pays $50 is doing it wrong.

Yeah, P.A. hit it on the head, every comparison/discussion about Plus from here on in is going to be about semantics.
