Albert from AtariAge and I are hosting a series of tournaments at CGE and I thought I'd poll you fine folks to find out what games you'd like to compete in. The format for these will be 2 or 4 players head-to-head. There will be impromptu "high score contests" throughout the weekend as well as Classic Gaming Jeopardy and Family Feud but we're looking specifically for head-to-head stuff for bracket play.
Preferable systems: Any Atari system, Intellivision, ColecoVision, NES, SNES, Genesis, or N64... though games from other systems prior to N64 will be considered if they "fit"!
Suggestions?

We're going to use Medieval Mayhem (http://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=842), which is a much better version of Warlords. Here's a YouTube video:

I'll second "Fall Down" on the VCS. Great game! I love Indy 500, Maze Craze, and Slot Racers.

Indy 500 is another great game. Why didn't I think of that one.

Kaboom!
Likely to be fun for the competitors, impressive to spectators if the players are good, and quick enough so that onlookers don't grow bored. Will also be simple enough for newcomers to immediately grok.
EDIT: Just re-read the original post. I guess Kaboom won't qualify (not head-to-head).

Like Albert said, Medieval Mayhem will certainly fill the bill for Warlords fans and is a definite.
I have run 10-player Saturn Bomberman tournaments in the past, it's just such a pain in the ass to set up (and find 10 acceptable Saturn controllers and 2 multi-taps) but I'll see if I can wrangle the stuff up again because it IS a lot of fun.
GoldenEye sounds like a good idea too. I've never run a tournament with that game before but I'll beta test at the store.
Please keep the suggestions coming!

I have been playing the Original Mario Bros. Arcade game alot with my son. It is on the SNES/Mario Allstars cart (in the SMbros.3 game menu) . This game is a lot of fun and it has a best of 5 scoring system that is perfect for this kinda thing.

Mario Kart DS is awesome in multiplayer if you can track down enough DS machines.
