Who here likes Rampart, the old game for the arcade? I never got around to play the arcade game, but I played it on the NES and SMS. It is very addictive! I read on Wikipedia that the NES version is a remake; the SMS version is a port. What is your favorite version of this classic game? I miss the music from the NES version when I play the SMS, but they are different somehow. Does anyone know what the differences are? They both keep me up all night! There is something very addictive about this little game, even though you just shoot cannons and build walls!

I love this game. I only had the SNES version, so I don't know how different it was. But I'd spend hours playing this with friends. Making them walk the plank never got old.

this is probably one of my favorite, underrated multiplayer games - put it this way, firing this game up in college brought in many many people to play, from 360 'modern' gamers to those just starting into videogames. the formula just works really well and it's hard to put down.

Love this game. The multiplayer was the best, but the campaign was good too. Campaign was wayyyyyyyy too short.

I really like it and suggested it for the Mame club a while back. I've never actually played multiplayer though.

OMG I used to bust quarters into this machine like a madman back in the late 80's early 90's, multiplayer was a blast! And it was a trackball game which I'm sure no home port could duplicate. One of my favorite arcade games ever!!!!

Ready!!! Aim!!! FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!! :rockets::2gunfire::snipersmile::devilish:

This was one of the original 15-20 CIBs I owned on NES as a kid. Loved it then and love it now even though I don't play it much.

Just recently got the SNES version CIB also but haven't had time to try it. I highly recommend the multiplayer on this game also.

I also love Rampart!

But I've only played the Genesis version and a 3-player arcade port on some PS2 Arcade Classics compilation.

In the Genny version, the winning player actually gets to chop off the loser's head with a guillotine! I'd love to see a modern day remake :)

See, I've always wondered about that - being really fond of the nes version (it was the first rampart I played) I always thought the 'false guillotine' for the losing player to be lame, I always wanted it to nab him. (the blade falls off and misses, every time.) Are you saying the gen/other versions had the gorier outcome? That's pretty rad.

There were versions with a guillotine? Seems like Nintendo wanted it more tame by the time the SNES version came out.

Right as the blade hits the guys neck... the screen turns red accompanied by a *shink* sorta sound effect. I'm pretty sure they meant to give the impression that he did lose his head :)

Kinda sucks I can't find any footage of it on YouTube though...

EDIT: The losing player also gets 3 sound effects to play as they wait for the blade to drop. One makes somebody in the crowd yell "Pull!" another makes the loser close his eyes... and the last one makes him sort of wimper. It's my favorite ending in any videogame :)

Did anyone other than myself get the opportunity to pop quarters into this machine back in the day, and play some real Arcade 2-player!?
