The Walmart by me still has 15-20 of them and they want $50 (I was hoping they were like $20) Anyone else still see them in any stores? If so do they still want $50.

... doesn't that red tag mean it's a clearance game? So it would have a much lower price?

I don't think I've noticed Eternal Darkness, but the Walmart near me has copies of Armored Core 2 Another Age but no price on them. I thought I'd pick one up so I'd have a new copy but then they rang up at $50 so I told them to forget it.

Low prices my ass. Not just games, but has anyone else noticed that Walmart is high priced on the majority of things? Like a lot of different food products for example. I remember when Walmart was actually low priced, but it just seems that after people got the Walmart being low priced mentality in their head, Walmart jacks up the price and is way above the competitors. People think they're getting a good deal though when 70% of the time they're not.

A Wal-Mart near me had some PS1 games like a year ago, the only one that stuck out was a "new" Resident Evil 2. I say "new" because the plastic was almost completely gone. Oh, and they wanted $15 for it.

Something that always gets me is that Wal-Mart prices all their games four cents below MSRP. 59.96 for 360 games, 49.96 for new games, etc;

Where else are you going to shop? The locally owned small business shop? *snicker*

I frequently see copies of Odama lingering at the bottom of Zellers display cases. I think they were $20, last time I checked.

Walmart will never reduce the price on those games. The Walmart near me had new copies of Conker's Bad Fur Day for over $70 for years, they just ended up returning them instead of cutting the price.

I rarely ever buy anything from Walmart except for the disposable type of items that you have to buy regularly, like soap or shampoo. They rarely have sales or lower prices for electronics, I just see sales on new items. I'd rather wait until they go on sale or clearanced from other stores as the prices will be much lower.

Until they closed a couple of years ago, the K-Mart near me still had copies of Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for SNES going for $29.99.

Walmart electronics departments all are YMMV. Their limited markdown dollars rarely go to games which eat up much less space than old computers, dvd players, tv's ect that need to be moved to make way for the new stuff. It doesn't help that profit margins are lower on games, and if they don't have other stuff to fill those holes, there is little reason to leave the gaps in their cases.

Walmart at my area have Pokemon Stadium N64 for $65. I wonder if they do check their old stock.

Sometime in 1998, I found a lone copy of Breath of Fire somehow marked at $4.96. Aside from that singular fluke, Wal-Mart ERY rarely ever discounts their video games.
I think I saw the Rock Band AC/DC track pack for $20 on clearance once last year, as well as FIFA 2004 for PS1 for a mere $29.96!

It must really depend upon where you live.

For example, my local Walmart (Calexico, California) will clearance certain games all the way down to $10. ... and if they don't sell, they raise the price to $20 and try to hawk them at that price again. An example of this was Elite Beat Agents, which was being sold for $7 with a DS protective case and such -an aisle away.-

Compare this to the Walmarts in East Tennessee (I was on vacation there last year), which clearance out games regularly. I bought Elite Beat Agents for my nephews there last year for five bucks. They saw the $20 EBAs here and told me about them. Friggin' sad.

It all varies on the Assistant Manager over the department, the Store Manager and (sometimes) how well the store is doing. I got a few good games for a decent price because the then Store Manager allowed the then Assistant Manager over Electronics to drop prices, clearing out the ridiculous over stock we had. There were a few Gamecube games I wanted to grab, but they had since left and the Store Managers after (we had 3 within 2 years, long story) wouldn't approve the price drops, so they were stuck with a bunch of Gamecube games at $50 and eventually just sent them to claims.

You'll very rarely see a game under $20, when you do it's usually a bunch of Wii/DS shovelware that nobody wanted to begin with. Sometimes they'll even break those shovelware 2 packs apart and sell the said games for $20 a piece.

Eh? Here in Canada sub-$20 games are often available at Wal-Mart. Henry Hatsworth is often on hand for $10, for instance. I bought Exit DS there once for $5 (it was on sale), and Apollo Justice for $10. (I'd say I was lucky about that second one, but I had actually paid quite a hefty price for my own copy and I only just managed to trade it off - finally! - just recently.)

But maybe that's just Canada.

I've not seen a Gamecube game at a Walmart in years.

My local Walmart does a pretty decent job of marking down games. Mirror's Edge and Red Faction Guerrilla were $10 the last time I went. There were many others for PS3/XBOX 360/Wii in the $15-20 range with some DS games mixed in. Once in a while, there will be one or two PS2 titles marked down to $5.

I've seen a ton of $20 360 games sell for $10. Stuff like Star Ocean Last Hope, Infinite Undiscovery, and I think I even saw Bioshock.

At my local Wal-Mart they have a bunch of PSX sports games for $39.99 a pop LOL.

(And yes, I've spoken to the employees there. Their manager refuses to let them discount them.)

Like I said it all depends on the store and whether or not the Store Manager will approve the price drops, otherwise they'll be stuck at $20.

A few years back one of the Walmarts I traveled to had GBC copies of Resident Evil Gaiden still marked at the original retail price. The electronics manager told me that even though it was several generations old the price would still never come down.

My local Walmart has games that it won't lower past a certain price but in the last two years it has actually lowered the price of several current gen games(360, Wii, Ds, Psp) to the sub $20 level. Like others have said, it varies by location.

The Walmart "SuperCenter" in Oshkosh, WI still had several Dreamcast games as of summer 2005. Time Stalkers and Street Fighter Alpha 3 were two I remember. They rang up at $29.99 each. These weren't returns either...they were old stock from the smaller Walmart that closed just down the road. 6 years on the pegs is a pretty good run IMO.

The TRU in Madison, WI had several WWF N64 games and Pokemon Snap as of late 2005/early 2006 as well. At least they were marked as clearance (for $4.99 or so).

I saw a couple of old Maddens and other late 2000s sports games for PS1 at my local walmart. I forgot how much they were (because I didn't care) but I was more curious of how they ended up there because the Wal Mart maybe opened in my town aroun 07 or 08.

I did see a Zelda Twilight Princess brand new at my local Kmart that I snagged up for only around 15 bucks.

Too late. They already own ASDA and have begun utilizing some Walmart style marketing with the smiley faces, etc...I believe they are planning on rolling out throughout Europe using the ASDA brand name in the next few years.

If it doesn't have a "was: $XXXX" it's actually considered a "deleted" item and simply means that the store will not be getting anymore in. It's also confusing to the customer because it looks so much like a clearance item.

Last I checked, the Largo FL Wal-Mart still had new copies of Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 + 2 (Xbox) for $49.99. That was 2009, long after the servers went down.

Wal-Mart kinda sucks is putting it lightly.

Did I ever tell the story about how I got carded at Wal-Mart? I was buying the guide for Oblivion. And the guy was a total DICK about it. After he rang it up, he just stared at me for a minute. Then he asked if I was 17, and just STARED AT ME after I answered. I had to ask him, "do you need to see my ID," to which he just retorts, "that would help." When I opened my wallet to show my license, he stares at it for a minute before saying, "that doesn't prove anything." At this point, I'm not sure whether to facepalm or just leave. I ask, as politely as I could given how I was being treated, "do you want me to TAKE IT OUT and PLACE IT IN YOUR HAND?"

And you know what he says? Yeah, "that would help." Then he handed me my receipt and told me to have a nice day. I haven't been in a Wal-Mart voluntarily since.

That is.....retarded. someone once told me their little brother who was 15 got carded while trying to purchase a T rated game. Sense: This scenario makes none.

I had my sister with me, and my parents were waiting at the front checkout. If I had asked for a manager, I probably would have gotten more of the same. Wal-Mart is an incredibly depressing place, and I don't spend more time in there than I have to. Heck, they have no windows, just like Vegas casinos. They don't want you to know what time it is, so you stay longer.

To be fair, the same goes for every department store and supermarket I've been in, not just Wal-Mart.

To be fair, the same goes for every department store and supermarket I've been in, not just Wal-Mart.

That's odd. Here in the Northeast, most supermarkets I've been in have lots of windows at the front of the store, which can be a real pain if the store faces west and your shopping later in the day with the sun low in the sky as your in line at a register.

Only the newest locations of perhaps the last 20 years sometimes don't seem to have many windows. All the older locations around here have basically the whole front of the store lined with windows in front of where the registers are, and many newer locations seem to incorporate lots of glass too (There's several Price Choppers around here built over the past 15 years with tons of windows in the front).

Here's some examples grabbed off Google images.

Before the renovations that happened about 5 years ago, the Wal-Mart in the Mountain Plaza Mall in Hamilton had a faded, dust covered copy of Dual Heroes for N64 priced at $99. I've never seen an N64 game that expensive even in the systems heyday.
I've actually benefited from their scatterbrained pricing practices on more than a few occasions.
Once, I bought a black dot (i.e. defective) Blue Stinger, packaged with a generic UPC, from their bargain bin for $10, and when I returned it for being flaky, it rang up as a $40 item. They let me have another $10 bargain bin replacement, and gave me $30 cash!
Of course, I repeated this process every time a different cashier was on service desk until they were out of stock on DC bargain bin games, which netted me about $200.
I think it was fair, since they were selling merchandise that was known to be defective.
I've also bought accessory packs from bargain bins and returned some of the accessories as separate, unopened items, and got more than my money back.

The Wal-Mart in Dufferin Mall in Toronto used to have a bargain bin in the electronics section that was overflowing with crap Wii, DS, and GBA games. Most of the boxes were crushed and I would say most of those had the games stolen from them. I don't think they even care. It's less work to throw out the pile of mangled packaging than it is to ring up all those games.
It's amazing that a business can be run so haphazardly and still be successful. I guess that's the beauty of high volume sales and bullying their suppliers.

I don't steal from any store, because it's stupid, but wal mart is the easiest store in the world to steal from. especially things like CDs and DVDs. People take them into the bathroom, take the disc out, removed the art and papers(so they can't tell which item was stolen), wrap the disc in the papers and put it in their hoodie pocket/pocket book/whatever and then discard the packaging. It's pretty messed up.

We're digressing a bit, guys...alright, a lot.

But they really cleaned up their act a while ago and I haven't seen a messy bin like that in quite some time for video games - just DVD movies, and maybe PC games.

It's a bit pointless now that everything's in largely-uncrushable plastic.

In the late '90s I happened to spot at the back of the local Wal-Mart's games display case a copy of Mega Man 5 marked at $50 or so, some amount that was unflinchingly the retail price of it around release. I remember being rather psyched to have found the last remaining NES Mega Man I needed for the set o' six but was reluctant to pay such a hefty sum for a game that clearly should have been marked down for reasons of antiquity. In spite of that, however, I convinced myself to go ahead and buy the bloody thing and was awesomely surprised when at the till the game came up at a deep discount.

Anyhow, all that to say perhaps it's worth getting a price check on those copies of Eternal Darkness if you haven't already. If fortune smiles, the listed price is just horribly out of date for your store.
