I know this has been discussed on the Good Deals thread but I was so excited that maybe it warranted a new post just for donations. A friend dropped by with a Sega Dreamcast, a N64 and a Gamecube, for free! a couple of games and he promised to bring by 20 something N64 cartridges. I think that as soon as people see what you're trying to accomplish they want to be a part of it. My father's friend's son came by and I've talked to him like once or twice and he's bringing me a bunch SNES cartridges and a Playstation. Pretty cool.

Yeah I've got a ton of donations over the years myself. A free PS2, free Turbografx, free Turbo Express, lots and lots of free turbografx games, ps2, ps1 games, dreamcast, and recently even an import Saturn game.

Like you said, I think when people realize that you are a collector they want to be a part of it. I think it's pretty cool.

You can visit your family and friends and bring up the subject of videos games very subtle like. And be like "Hey didnt you used to have a turbograph and a 3DO?"

Oh! Sorry!

I've misunderstood the subject.

I thought the trade was because of forum relations.

I'm really sorry.

I once got a few donations a few years ago from my sister's friend who stopped playing SNES games. I thought it was very nice to received such gifts; it's as if they wanted to pass on the old games to a new generation of gamers.

my dad once traded a few burnt up electric motors for a sega cd/genesis 2 and a box of at least 20 sega cd/genesis games and 3 controllers

the only downside was that a cat had pissed on the games, the piss soaked into the instruction manuals and had a foul smell for a while, now 12 years later there is no more piss smell :)

Oddly enough, I think I've gotten more donations from people online that I've never met in person. Granted, most people I come across in my everyday life don't even know that I'm big on video games, since I know that as an adult woman that would get me funny looks from a lot of people. But anyway, as for the online folks, it can be easy to sometimes fixate on the trolls out there that are on gaming forums, but there are a lot of amazingly kind and generous gamers too. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy reflecting on it. :)

I had a really great couple and their kids give me a Sega-CDX in the box and a bunch of Sega CD games as a housewarming gift. They were customers of mine at the time and knew I'd give the stuff a good home. I never forgot them.
