SEASIDE HEIGHTS "FLASHBACKS" Arcade..July 2010
I went down the shore yesterday(last time 2 years ago)
The FLASHBACKS Arcade room has been made just of Arcade Machines
A new Flashbacks room is off to the left (that used to have Pool Tables in it)
This new FLASHBACKS room arch and all holds Pinball machines..and some other stuff..

Man, I went there back in 2008 and they only had one Flashback room...it was very nice though. Wish they had that nice string of pins when I had gone there though, that would've been awesome.

They still have major upkeep issues on the machines.
They must not employ a full-time repair tech for the arcade machines or pinballs ... most are in playable condition but some are suffering from major wear/tear on both the controls and the monitor quality.
In previous years the flashback room had a handful of machines including Punch-Out, Super Mario Bros, and others with only partially functioning controls ... and nothing grinds my gears more than an arcade that allows a machine to run and take credits when it's knowingly not 100% working.
I suppose that it's all one can really expect these days ... but I recall an era where the Seaside Heights boardwalk was nothing but quality arcades.
I'm sure that they're on a shoe-string budget to get those cabs and pinballs they have working for the summer season ... but I'd love to see some real time/money put into restoring at least ONE good arcade on the boards.

We were there last year most recently. I see they moved the newer games and pinball into the larger room. The real old stuff is in a small room, which when we were there, stunk of mildew. After leaving I pretty much said to myself, I have no desire to come back here again.

Man, 50 cents for Frogger, Tempest, etc. just seems wrong.

I don't remember the games being all broken/non-functioning back when I went in 08, and the selection was good. You really don't see Atari Star Wars sitdown anymore.
But that was 3 summers ago, so who knows what it's like now.

Baloo, in 2009 most of the games that were turned on were fully functional. However, the controls were often really worn out, making gameplay difficult. Last year they were remodeling the main room, it was boarded up. As I take a second look at all the pictures, it looks like they moved all the vintage arcade machines back into the larger room (painted magenta walls), where they were in 2008. That's actually a welcomed change, as that room seemed to be properly ventilated. The other room, which Rob and I visited last year (painted orange) now has some of the newer machines (Guitar Hero) and the vintage pinball machines. That room was the one that was hot and stunk so bad I couldn't stay there.

Not ALL of the games, but some were in states of disrepair that made play VERY challenging if not impossible.
None of the machines would've or should've passed DP collector standards.
The Star Wars they have is the standard stand up version. I believe Pole Position is the sit down game they have.

I'm glad their still around. It sucks there's only two real arcades in Seaside. The rest have turned into crane game houses and ticket game stuff. I really have to visit them again and see how they've changed. I don't think I've been there since 2007. It used to be the place for me to go for classic 80's games till I discovered Funspot.

One or two Arcade machines were off or broken..One of the dual screen car racing games monitors was out the first week I went(topic made) then when I went back it was fixed.
The pole position was the sit down version next to Turbo which has CVC pipe of cold air blowing into the room next to it so sitting in the machine you get cooled off.
The Star wars was the standup version and I can't remember if it was on or not, might show it in the slideshow..It's one of my favs that i always play and i didn't play t so I think it may have been off or broken..The Arcade was dead both times/trips going there ..
In the pinball room the second trip,Whirlwind was still off,Carnival light gun machine was real loud..
There was one surfer kid in there going from machine to machine

Figured I'd revive an old thread... I tried going here this past weekend. They had maybe 4 pinball machines left. Employee told me everything else from that room was wiped out, that they lost over 400 machines due to Sandy. I'll miss the Hercules pinball machine most of all.

As soon as I saw the after shots of the boardwalk, I knew that place was destroyed, because it was on a pier. Seems like the front end of the pier, with the vintage carousel was spared, but the arcade section in the back was flattened and washed out to sea. Like you said, the loss of the pinball machines is very unfortunate, particularly Hercules, which even the Silverball Museum in Asbury Park doesn't have! 400 machines? Well very few of those were classic ones on display, that's for sure. Their facebook page says they can't rebuild the arcade until 2014.

The carousel was running, they basically just walled off a little past the carousel and there was a window to peer through that the rest of the pier behind it was gone. I don't know if it's possible that the 400 was across multiple arcades on the boardwalk or if they really had 400 machines in there or in storage there, but that was the number an employee gave.

If you didn't see the news of the fire by now, Flashbacks and the Carousel Arcade are now gone along with sizable portion of the boardwalk.

Very unfortunate, the carousel was 102 years old.
