There's one at my local thrift it's dark blue, ive never seen on before and i just checked ebay and google etc and see nothing?!!? It looks factory painted dark blue, it's very attractive but at the same time its in kinda rough condition and is missing the dvd tray door and i dont know if it works but im thinking this thing is super rare. i did not take any photos all i can see is the thing is a nice dark blue color and its not a homebrew paint job... They are asking $20 Anyone know anything bout this thing!?? Thanks.

There were a zillion case mod/shell replacements for the PS2, if not a custom paint job, could've easily been one of those.

That is the closest one that I found on eBay that was official. It's not dark blue though.

It could be a replacement shell or it might be official (I've never seen a dark blue PS2), but I'm sure it's value would be the same as any regular PS2.

There was a series of colors that were released around the time of EverQuest Adventures for the PS2. There were 666 released of each unit (white, red, blue, yellow and maybe one other color), of which a Dark Blue was one of the colors. It should be very shiny, if it's got a warranty sticker on it, it's legit.

Its much deeper and shinier blue than that one.

This was a red official one I found, it might give you an idea of what the blue one is worth:

I can't wait to see the pictures. I had no idea Sony made those.

Thanks for that! So given the condition the blue one is in im guessing it will be worth more like 50-75. :)

I recall that the European Automobile Color Collection versions were sold at the Playstation store at the Metreon, I had a friend in the area pick up a yellow version for me. I'm not sure where else they were available.

I always see a few dark blue fat PS2's here in Japan every now and then. Could it be a Japanese unit?

Yesterday I picked up Ocarina of Time N64 collectors edition cart for $4 from Goodwill. At this goodwill they also had a strange BLUE PS2 which i passed on, i went back this morning and bought it for $20 which included a controller. Turns out this ps2 is VERY rare! :) I also got XBOX Halo ed controller, N64 AV cable and N64 game shark all for about $8. About $32 total for all the above.

Today i picked up an insanely good and MASSIVE N64 and SNES mostly complete games lot. It was a bit of a drive at 1.5 hours each way with pretty bad traffic and gnarly city directions. But damn it was worth it! All of the N64 stuff from this score costed me about $225 total. This stuff is CHERRY MINT most of it being in like new condition! WOOHOO!!! I picked it up near Stanford university in california in a wealthy neighborhood. :)

Here are the photos. ENJOY! :D

PS - i will be selling most if not all of this stuff in the coming weeks... ;) Keep an eye on my ebay store! kevincal20 is my ebay name.

Great finds. I find the PS2 quite interesting as the expansion bay and much of the back is black instead of dark blue.

yes i am not so sure it is from the automobile collection. but did you happen to notice the very low serial number? ;) Also there was no barcode like there is on a normal ps2. this tells me this was never available for sale? There was another PS2 at the goodwill to compare it it, a normal one. The normal ones information sticker was black with white text and the serial number was totally different, on the blue one the info sticker is the EXACT same color as the system and it has the low serial number, 800 something. The serial on the blue one starts with L which i do believe probably means Limited or Limited Edition. :) True some parts are still black but i am positive this system is some sort of limited edition model, from somewhere! :P Also the security strip is intact so the system was never taken apart. You can see all this stuff in the photos if you look carefully. :) ISnt she a beauty though? the paint on this thing is gorgeous... no doubt in my mind its a factory paint job, no chance its a homebrew or case replacement. Its sort of baffling that its probably not from the automobile paint collection or whatever, atleast maybe its not? still up in the air about what this thing truly is!

These were available for sale, I almost bought all of them. Like I said earlier, I saw all of them at the EQ PS2 launch (at the Meteron in SF). They were available online and at least at the Meteron. You wouldn't have walked into a GameStop and seen them, but you could see them there at the Meteron. They had Stacks of each color (easily 30+) out on the floor that night.

the thing that throws me is mine is serial numbered 800+ when there is only supposed to be 666 of each made!?

But then theres this

"Apologies in advance, but this is going to be a long post. I have developed a list over time of all of the different colour PlayStations (and their model numbers) which I'll post below in abridged form.

A couple of things to note:

1. this is not the complete list of all PlayStations released, it is a list of the different colors and designs which I've used to keep tabs on PlayStations I still need to get. My biggest collection conflict is that I've excluded the PlayStation GT4 pack as, although it has a different model number, it's the exact same machine as the SCPH-50000CW model, and I didn't want two of them.

2. This list does not include most development hardware (Only the debugging stations which different designs or colors)

3. I've read that there are a couple of PlayStation limited editions that aren't on the list (Team Jordan model, PSP Gran Turismo, Men-in-Black model). I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that these were any more than one-off models, but if you find some, let me know).

4. The model numbers correspond to the units that I've chosen to collect. Some of them are of course available in a number of regions with different model numbers.

Enjoy....

PlayStation

Base Units
PlayStation (SCPH-1000)
PSone (SCPH-100)
PSone Combo (SCPH-140)

Hong Kong VCD Limited Edition (10,000 units)
VCD PlayStation (SCPH-5903)

PlayStation 10 Million Edition (100 units per territory)
PlayStation Midnight Blue (SCPH-7001)

Development
Net Yaroze (DTL-H3000)
Blue Debugging PlayStation (DTL-H1000)
Green Debugging PlayStation (DTL-H1200)

PlayStation2

Base Units
PlayStation2 Charcoal Black (SCPH-10000)
PlayStation2 Midnight Black (SCPH-50000NB)
PlayStation2 Slimline Charcoal Black (SCPH-70000CB)
PlayStation2 Slimline Ceramic White (SCPH-70000CW)
PSX (DESR-7700)

2001 European Automotive Color Collection (666 units each)
PlayStation2 Super Red (SCPH-30001R)
PlayStation2 Snow White (SCPH-30001R)
PlayStation2 Metallic Silver (SCPH-30001R)
PlayStation2 Light Yellow (SCPH-30001R)
PlayStation2 Astral Blue (SCPH-30001R)"

So according to this it IS infact the european automotive color collection etc etc like you say but again im just curious if mine is one of the 666 why is the serial number over 800!? Still im thrilled that i got something this rare at goodwill :P
