I've been tinkering with genres of games that I've not really delved into before... as of late I've been pondering getting into RPGs. I'm already planning on picking up Dragon Quest 9, but I've also become interested in possibly picking up Etrian Odyssey 3 (of course, the promise of a kick-ass art book for pre-ordering doesn't hurt). I already know what I'll be getting into with Dragon Quest, but I know next to nothing about the Etrian Odyssey series. Is it a series that's easy to get into, or is it something that requires a big commitment to learn to play? Keeping in mind of course that my main experience with RPGs has been the Pokemon and Mario RPG/Paper Mario series... would Etrian Odyssey be something I would enjoy, or regret ever picking up?

It's something akin to Wizardry, where you go through dungeons in a 1st person point of view, it's a dungeon crawler, or a roguelike, if you're familiar with that term.

Is that what you're looking for? I'd recommend if you can download emulator and just getting a wizardry game to see if you like the style of gameplay. If you enjoy that, then perhaps this might be good for you.
