I got the Hitman one and I was looking at Onimusha Essentials and the Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary one. The thing is that from what I can see in my Hitman one they dont add anything special except the cardboard cover. And the price of the games individuall is less. I considered the Metal Gear one but I already got Metal Gear 2, same goes for DMC I already got number 2 in that series.

I see these sets for $20 at many stores...

The Metal Gear Solid one is a bit of a ripoff though - the set doesn't include MGS1 VR Missions, or disc two of MGS3.

True, but at the time of release, MGS2: Substance was still going for roughly $20 to $30 used. I paid $30 for the collection the day it came out, simply for Substance, even though I already MGS, and MGS3: Subsistence Limited Edition.

The only ones worth buying IMHO are the Devil May Cry collection for the black label DMC3SE and the Metal Gear Solid collection for the cover art variation (although the manuals are awful). Of course, if you don't have any of the games then getting the collections is pretty convenient.

The serial numbers are different (same as the original release but with a P3 at the end). Almost if not all the collections use the generic Amaray dark blue cases (no memory card holder); also the manuals and covers use a thinner paper.

I bought the DMC collection for this reason. Gave the original DMC3SE to my brother.

I can attest that the Hitman one is a ripoff nothing special about this one.

I think they're nice to have in the cardboard slipcover though as others have said, there's no real advantage to buying this set over the titles individually as there's nothing new added. I have the MGS Essentials set and am working on completing the DMC and Onimusha sets. I got the slipcovers when I was working at GS and have been piecing the sets together from used inventory as I find it (in good condition and for the cheap). My local Wally World has a ton of the Pac-Man collections and I keep thinking about picking it up but I already have 2/3 of the games in the set already (but I want the slipcover!)

I've no interest in the Hitman Collection, the Namco Classic Fighter Collection, the Mortal Kombat Kollection or the GTA Trilogy though. ^^;

If you plan to keep them sealed, then I would say yes. If you are a gamer, then no. The used copies crash quickly in value and can be picked up for a discount. Some sealed collectors editions can be worth a good amount of money a few years down the road.

The GTA collection doesnt bring anything new to the table.

The MGS one got me on the ropes. Onimusha seems like its just a cover.

I want to buy the Onimusha set because it's cheaper than hunting down used copies of the three games in good condition.

The thing is that the lowest you can go on games off ebay would be like 5 bucks but I saw Onimusha at Gamestop for 3 bucks. Now the sets are going higher than that as high as 20 bucks. Im at a real crossroads with the MGS set but I just nickle and dime it until i get desperate and just pay whatever price LOL.

I would really hesitate to call these collector's editions though. They are released typically after the Greatest Hits versions and often use cheaper materials in addition to not always including everything that came with the original release of the game. Given what the Playstation One "collector's edition" packages sell for, it seems like these collections are actually far less valuable than just having the original black label versions of the games sealed.

My answer was aimed sort of at new collectors edition today. Thats the vibe I got since this was posted in modern gaming. I am talking about games like halo, bioshock, arkham asylum, games like that. Maybe I misunderstood the op.

Even the vast majority of those don't maintain their value. In fact, of that short list, only the original Bioshock CE appreciated. Halo and Arkham Asylum completely cratered as do most of the collectors editions and limited editions.

I really enjoyed the Gears of War 2 LE. The postcards, the book, the metal case they were all cool. Also, I never go anywhere without my gold lancer.

The OP means the "Collection" releases (read: DMC 5th Aniv Collection, Onimusha Essentials, RE Essentials, MGS:TEC etc.), not "Collector's Edition"

I must be a true nerd because I think that some of the stuff that they put in collector/special editions is cool. That being said, most of the time the stuff they put in there never sees the light of day. I usually don't buy them unless they are for a game that I really like or that I can get a real good deal on. One such case was Arkham Asylum for the PS3. I wanted to get the game, but found the collector's edition for half price at a store that was going out of business. That way I got the special edition for less than the cost of just the game.

I normally buy collector's Edition games if the package have anything worth collecting overall. ROFL
