What's your favorite controller of all time?

Mine's a little nostalgic, as I don't find it as comfortable as an Xbox 360 pad but I grew up with it and want to get another.

I played SF2 with this thing so much as a kid I think the part of my brain that registers empathy or tastes of food was replaced with the ability to do that 4 hit trip combo without thinking first.

My favorite pad of all time?
Easy, really, the official Sega Genesis 6-Button Arcade Pad.
It just has to be one of the most responsive, well made and comfortable game pads ever designed. Granted, there are other pads which are MORE comfortable, or MORE responsive, etc, but none of them mix it nearly as well as the pad I mentioned.
Well, maybe the model 2 Saturn controller is a close second. I dunno.

The Playstation Dual Shock analog controller. A ton of features in a comfortable design where you didn't have to change hand positions for the different buttons and stuff.

I don't have a favorite, but I saw this the other day on The Chive, would've been fun to have in college.

I'll take a good arcade stick over any pad, but I've always been a fan of the 3D analog controller for Saturn.

Gamecube controller. It just adheres to my hand so well and is very comfortable.

The original PSX Dual Analog (i.e. the "Single Shock") and the Game Cube controller.

Super NES and 360 were close 2nds.

NES Advantage. Finally, consistency between the arcade and NES games at home. I swore off gamepads the day I got my Advantage.

Funny I got one recently for the exact same reason I just LOVE it! In fact it was one of SEVERAL controllers for NES I got a few being interesting that I had never owned or used previously, check out the videos I made about them:

Depends on what I'm playing. Xbox 360 for shooters, ps1/2/3 or SNES for fighters, Gamecube for pretty much everything else.

^Me too. I still use the SNES button combinations when I play 2D fighters.

NES Advantage. Finally, consistency between the arcade and NES games at home. I swore off gamepads the day I got my Advantage.

There's also the significant advantage of being able to control the statue of liberty.

Those were cool. That's a pretty good view you have there.

I also have no idea how anyone would use that NES quick shot lol.

Eventually one day I'm going to start collecting special NES pads, as my friggin Andre the Giant hands are way too big now as an adult to use them. It's probably why I always liked the original Xbox giganto hamburger controller.

The Sega Genesis 6-Button pad is amazing. I've actually worn out a few of my pads because I play too much Marvel Vs. Capcom on my PC with the pads...

For Arcade sticks, I love the NES Advantage-- it's probably due to my wanting one since I was a kid. I always saw the thing in that old official Nintendo Players' Guide, but I never had one 'cause I never had a working NES. I love the one I've got now.

I remember finding the NES Advantage at a garage sale when I was around 7 in 1991 for about $5. I got it and loved it. The radio dial style turbo blew my mind as a kid.

Most controllers with split D-Pads suck, but this one is the best.

Either this or the PS3 Six Axis. No, not the DualShock 3, but the original PS3 controller. The controller feels like it's pretty much weightless.

Sony needs to stop making DualShock and go back to Six Axis only. You can easily tell the difference in weight.

The Genesis controller, mainly because the D-pad is awesome compared to the SNES pad.

That thing makes playing Star Fox awkward.

works on many consoles/computers, unlike a SNES controller, so it's without any doubt the best:

Toss up between the SNES and PS2 controller.

I agree with this. I like the GC controller alot too. Some, like the first Xbox controller, is almost too big for my hands.

Sega Saturn - Model 2 controller is the best of all-time.

I think the Gamecube might be the worst of all time, and I am honestly shocked to see so many people pick it. I thought the first guy said Gamecube as a joke, but them several more agreed? :(

My favorite is the N64 controller. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I thought the feel of it was perfect, expecially for FPS shooters.

The regular ol' 3-button stock genesis controller. I love it's feel, it's weight, and I spent a massive amount of time with it as a kid. Runner up is the original PSX controller. From a design perspective it's perfect - it fits almost everyone's hands, all the buttons are easily accessible, and the ability to switch between the L analog stick and the d-pad was seamless. I used to play Gran Turismo 1/2 with just the d-pad because it gave me far more control. XD

Worst controller has to be the N64. I had (and still do) trouble figuring out the best way to hold it, and often times (for me at least) you have to switch how you hold it depending on the game.

Agreed. I think it'll take a generation or two of it being gone for us to truly appreciate it. I used to hate the type S controller for the original Xbox, but the X360 pad is just amazing.

For me, it's all about the GameCube controller, the original Model 1 Saturn USA controller, and the PSX Dual Analog controller.

I would have to say the xbox s-controller or the dreamcast controller, although I have to say I dont like how the dreamcast controller is tapered inwards. It has never made sense to my why they did that, its ergonomically incorrect, unless your arms are attached at the sternum. I think it would be perfect if it was just slightly tapering outwards.

Absolute favorite of all time? The original, standard 3-button Sega Genesis controller.

Ultra-close runners-up: The Sega Genesis 6-button pad, SNES AsciiPad, Saturn model 2 pad, Hori SNES-style GC pad, and the standard Gamecube controller (the D-pad is absurdly small on this one, but who needs it when you have a HORI pad? The rest of it fits perfectly in my hands).

Favorite current gen pad is the XBOX 360 controller.

As for one of my least favorite pads of all time: Anything from the DualShock series; fit is fine but the convex sticks slip out from under my thumbs constantly (I also don't care for their throw) and the D-pad is, to me, one of the worst ever designed, even compared to the 360's.

I like controllers heavier. It feels a lot more natural. You can feel the same difference amongst different versions of the same PC controller.
