Hello everyone, i am, quite obviously, a new member. In case you suffer from the derps, my screen name is a combination of super Nintendo, Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo 64. Given this forum's subject matter and members, I realize you probably already knew that, but you would be very surprised how often I get asked....
Anyway, the Gamecube is a personal favorite system of mine, and I just wanted to know some of you guys favorite games, so make a top 10 list of them! Feel free to go into as much or little detail as you want.
Here are my top 10:
10. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Sonic games have been on a fast and steady decline since the release of this one, which is actually a remake. I consider it the last good Sonic game, and despite it's flaws, I is a very enjoyable game. Plus, I loved the Chao garden. Because of those little bundles of chibi anime cuteness, i played even longer.
9. Starfox Assault
Is it as good as Starfox 64? Nowhere close. So why is it on my top ten? Because the despite campaign that made us SF fanboys and girls head desk until we developed callouses on our foreheads like Wesley Willis, multiplayer was it's saving grace. I spent hours playing this game with my friends late into the night. The more you played the more characters, weapons and maps you unlocked, which added even more incentive to play it more often!
8. Luigi's Mansion
A launch title for the Gamecube that really showed off the power of the system. The physics and lighting effects are still pretty sweet today. for the first time, Luigi was in the spotlight!...well, ok, there was Mario is Missing, but no one played that. They may have ripped of Ghost Busters the Adams Family and Resident Evil all at the same time, but it was still a fun experience. shame it can be beaten in an afternoon.
7. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Most gamers love Zelda, and despite the questionable art direction, WW is Zelda to the core. If you don't like the visuals, don't let that stop you from playing this one. You are only hurting yourself if you choose not to. The only reason it is so low on the list is the ocean travel annoyed me. Epona and Hyrule Field, please kay thanks.
6. Mario Kart:Double Dash!!
It's Mario Kart. I really don't have to say much more than that, but for the sake of your reading enjoyment, I will. When Super Mario Kart came out, it set the bar for ever kart race to come after it. How can Nintendo freshen the formula? Two characters per kart! One character handles the weapons and the other drives. To add a bit of strategy, Nintendo gave each character a special item only they could get. There was also a co-op mode added, but it wasn't as fun as going head to head. many hours of sleep were lost in favor of playing this game with buds.
5. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
A remake of the hugely popular Metal Gear Solid on PS1 that incorporates new voice actors, redone music, features from MGS2 and of course, updated graphics. Now, a lot of fans hated the changes, but this was actually my first metal Gear game. As such, I actually prefer this over the original. it's action movie narrative, interesting plot and amazing dialogue kept me interested at all times.
4. Pikmin 2
rarely do sequels live up to the original. In Pikmin 2's case, however, it not only lived up to the expectations, it surpassed them. Pikmin was inspired by ants in Miyamoto's garden. He saw how they worked together to gather resources, and incorporated this into a video game. Part adventure, part real time strategy, Pikmin is possibly the closest thing Miyamoto has ever come to creating art.
3. Pokemon Colosseum
Ho ho! Weren't expecting this one, were you? Well, to be honest, this game has so many things wrongs with, so many flaws and things that are just outright annoying that if it were on this list for the single player campaign, I would openly ask you to flame me for it. However, this game is on the list solely for it's connectivity, and the ability to battle your Pokemon from ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red or Leaf Green in full 3D. after this game came out, me and my friends never battled using our Gameboys again. we hooked up our hand helds to the cube and battle in full 3D, and you cannot deny Pokemon the merits it has rightfully earned. Since the release on the originals, players have been battling that hard earned and hand raised Pokemon(or in some cases, hacked and illegitimately leveled). Since the release of Pokemon Stadium, players have been battling in full 3D. Pokemon Colosseum allows for battling in even higher quality HD, and has a lackluster campaign slapped on for the heck of it. If only the campaign was as good.
2. Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing is a game that many compare to Harvest Moon of The Sims. I disagree with these comparisons because the genre is where the similarities end. Animal Crossing was originally a Nintendo 64 game in Japan, but never made it to US stores. It was so popular in Japan, they rereleased it for the Gamecube, and it finally hit American shores, with even more content that the Japanese rerelease! Becalms of this, it was released in japan AGAIN with even more content that the American rerelease! Unfortunately, the U.S. never got that last rerelease, but the cycle probably would have continued, so maybe that's a good thing. In AC, you are a boy or girl moving into a town, which you get to name, to live on your own. all your neighbors are chibi anthropomorphic animals, hence the name. The great thing about animal Crossing is you can do what you want, when you want. also, the Game runs in real time, and even mirror real world events like Thanks Giving and Christmas. Furthermore, a code system made trading items with people possible without internet! But to be honest, the reason this is number 2 on the list is that the game means a lot to me...I cant go into it here without writing a whole article about it, so perhaps another time.
1. Super Smash Bros. Melee
Was there any doubt? Easily the best multiplayer game on the Gamecube, SSBM will suck you and your friends in, and refuse to let you go until the wee hours of dawn. Nintendo, like any other company or person, makes mistakes, and recently, they've made a lot of them. Spend a few minutes with a game like smash bros. and it reminds you that they still have the same magic when they want to...
Well, there's mine, I can't wait to read yours!
