Lan Party Recommendations

We're looking to start up a "lan club" of sorts after work, maybe once a month.
I'm looking for games that we can play preferably free (Mechwarrior 4) or are multiplayer spawnable with 1 disk (Starcraft).

If it goes well, I figure we can do a $5 steam game every now and then, but I don't want everyone to pay out money off the bat for something I'm just trying to introduce.

Also, not interested in piracy, obviously! >:(

Any suggestions?

Is Age of Empires 2 do-able with 1 disk multiplayer? I seem to remember that only the host needed a disk, but it's been so long since I've Lan'ed it..

We do Age of Empires 2 Lan Parties up at school all the time, thats funny. We feel like the biggest nerds but love it. Dont mess with the saracens. We all connect wirelessly. What we did was get a copy of the game and pass it around on a flash drive. It doesnt matter who the host is, as long as they have a copy of the game on their computer.

First question is how many people are you going to have?

Your best bet would be using cracks for games you have one disk of. It may be piracy, but technically so is installing one game multiple times different machines.

Soldier of Fortune II Gold is one game my yearly LAN party has been playing for years. Runs on any machine and tons of modes.
