Hey, I just joined and I mentioned this in my Introduction post but I'm on page, like, 99 or something, so I figure nobody will ever see it. I discovered yesterday that I have the rarest of rare Intellivision consoles. It's called a World Book Tutor Vision. (http://www.tripoint.org/tutor/tutor.html)
It will be easy for everyone to say that I'm lying because I think this is only the second one ever found. I will post pics ASAP. I just want to make sure, for the sake of posterity that the Retro Game Collector community is aware of its existence.
If anybody has any info about this console I'd love to hear it. It seems like the link I posted above is the only existing info.
Thanks

That's pretty cool. Never seen one of those. It's in the rarity guide here at least.

Well, I live at...wait a minute-- I'll probably have pics up tomorrow. I'm discussing the find with Keith Robinson of the Blue Sky Rangers via email. Hopefully with some coercion, I can get him to sign off on some Cert. of Authenticity type thing. It would just be really cool to have documentation of the awesome history on this thing.

Okay, I did just find it in the rarity guide. Thanks JohnnyA. So it looks like mine is #3.

Why bother with that? Nobody doubts it exists and the website you linked to seems to have enough info about it to know what it is.

Posterity. It's not like I'd ever sell. But, you know, nice to have.

This doesn't seem like much, but I talked to Keith Robinson of the Blue Sky Rangers and he said that the clincher is the slightly rounded font produced by the special operating system used for the Tutor Vision. Compare it to your DK title screen. This is the real deal.

Very excited to have this. I just want to make sure that it's well documented.

Why do you suppose someone would do that? Perhaps it belonged to a World Book employee who took it home for his kids and then tried to hide what it was when the whole Tutorvision deal fell through? That's the only reason I could imagine someone having to scratch off the Tutorvision/World Book logos.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking maybe it was some kid got it and was angry that it didn't look like everyone else's consoles. You make a good point. From what I can tell, all three that have been found have turned up in Chicago. Looks like they all got boxed up and sent out on the same truck.

Could be a kid or kids who didn't like the way it looked. Could've been someone who didn't want their system to be different. Who knows. If only they knew how rare it was or would become later.
Nice machine dude. Does yours smell like the 80s like mine does?

Thanks. In my mind, the 80s smelled like Ecto-cooler and fruit roll-ups. Unfortunately, my Intellivision does not. But it does have a distinct "Dust and hot cardboard" funk, like all of my systems from that era.

Oh man! This sentence just about sums up my childhood. Throw Nintendo in there and yeah... that's my childhood.
But hey man, congrats on the find! It's nearly one of a kind.

I forgot the bubble tape and the song blaring in the background, "This is what we do, do, do, do--"
Thanks

That's awesome Drake, absolutely magnificent. It makes me very sad to see the scratched off logo. At least it's found a good loving home where it won't be abused any more. XD The rounded font is interesting in and of it's own right, as well. Congratulations on an awesome find. :)
