Hey all,
I don't want to repeat a bunch of stuff so giving you a link I started over on NintendoAge. Read it. If any of you are looking for anything in particular from old computers, console games to classic systems, etc. Post a want list here in this thread. I will be printing off all these threads when I go and inventory this stuff next week so first come first served as far as trying to make a deal for this stuff with the actual seller.

Not to be critical, but don't you think you should actually check out what this guy has and confirm he is for real before you post all over the message boards here and elsewhere that you are taking requests? I know your intentions are good, but if for some reason it doesn't work out or this guy is completely unreasonable or he goes ahead and sells it to someone before you meet with him, it's going to disappoint a lot of people who are eagerly putting together their want lists. I mean it's a good story and it's certainly possible that this guy is legit, but given that he knows how to use Craigslist, it's a little suspicious that he never thought to search Ebay and magically has all the rarest stuff without ever going beyond buying from friends and store liquidations.

I agree, but you just have to go into it with low expectations. Placing a request for a sealed copy of Stadium Events or a NWC cart and waiting desperately by your computer screen is a bit on the dramatic side, but I could see someone doing it. If it works out, great. If it's a wash, move on.

I know what you mean. I know he is legit from talking with him and also seeing the extent he went to list out tons of things in pretty great detail in his CL listing(s). He explained that there is just so much stuff and he had no clue any of it was worth a thing. He is not tuned into Ebay and has just used CL for other things. And most of this he got back in the 80's and has had it stored all this time. I know it's hard to believe.
The crazy part is that he is out of town until middle of next week and this weekend I am driving to Phoenix for MonroeAPalooza and then my work is making me call on some customers in Phoenix until Tues/Wed morning - so driving back Wed and hopefully hooking up with this guy Wed evening. And then Thursday I have to leave for Vegas and CGE. So the window next week to hook up with him is really only Wednesday night so it couldn't have come at a worse time. But at the same time I explained this and he is in no big rush at this point. He wants to take good inventory of it and then let me help him spread the love :) So I hope that is how it works out. But until you see the stuff with your own eyes there is always a chance something spoils the deal.
All I can say is I am doing my best here :)

Some people want to make money and some want to help out the community. I am glad you are getting a kick out of the games list, didn't take long to type one up. Plus there is no loss of anything in putting a list on here, kind of a just in case if I get lucky. If it is legit, GREAT, if not oh well. Meh "Chill out people", I think all of us are chilling. Updates!
No big updates yet, I am hoping to hook up with the guy next Wednesday. The timing on this was horribly bad as I am in Phoenix this weekend for MonroeAPalooza and then have to stay here until Tuesday to visit customers for my "real job" and then hitting home 5:00 AM Wed morning and heading back to SoCal where I have only Wed afternoon/evening to meet up with the CL guy and then heading to CGE on Thursday. As you know the longer stuff like this drags out the chances for scoring go down. But trying to stay positive and hope the guy lives up to his word for giving me first dibs on everything.
So, just chill out and hope that I meet him on Wednesday, video tape and inventory his stuff and then depending on what he has we will either all be excited or disappointed. Hang loose :)
Kaboomer
07-23-2010, 08:06 PM
Update:
I just talked with him again, and it looks like timing is bad enough for both of us that we won't meet until the week after CGE - Week of 8/2. And he said he is not going to do anything with his stuff until we hook up so I am feeling pretty good that we will all at least get the first glimpse of what he has. I will have my video camera with me for this so it will be well documented.
And he called me back, as I had left him a couple more messages the past day or so. So, so far so good.

He has had this stuff packed away for 25 years and according to him he has an overwhelming amount of stuff and really didn't know that anyone was interested in this stuff these days. I mean, if you haven't been a gamer or collector the past 20 years, I think it's possible he was just out of touch regarding this stuff.
His ads are still running on the LA Craigslist so I don't mind sharing. Check it.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/sys/1851661052.html
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/sys/1853204117.html
These are what prompted my initial contact with the guy. Then I dove in deeper and asked about other things, and he said because he has so much stuff he had to list separately or it would get crazy.
That is when he told me he has crap loads of other stuff he hadn't even got around to putting on CL yet. Tons of Pong systems, tons of cart systems from 70's through N64/Dreamcast. Boxes of games for every system. Tons of Electronic handheld games and Adventurevision.
And he gave me his phone # which someone bullshitting wouldn't do I don't think. Either way, I can't let this go until I know for sure :)
I have already claimed dibs on the C64 games and Vectrex stuff just an FYI. Anything else is fair game :)

I hate to rain on your parade, as I can tell you are really excited, but this seems VERY VERY suspicious! I wouldn't go there alone, and don't bring any money with you inside either.
Why would he be selling so damn much stuff for only $50? He may be uninformed that people collect retro video games, but a simple ebay search would let him know that a working 2600 is worth that much alone.

Lots of people on CL just throw a number out there but I think he meant he would sell large lots of stuff for $50 or whatever. I don't believe he meant the whole lot was $50.
Either way, I am enlisting the help of a couple other fellow gamers to go with me. So I will not be going alone :) And it will the week of 8/3 when we finally get over there. And I bet it's still legit :)

No surprise, Kaboomer.
For a person to state that he collected an assload of crap and declare that he has no idea of the value was bullshit in my eyes.
He had an alterior motive. I'm just glad nothing sinister occured. Something tells me that this would not end well.
So many inconsistencies and worries, and this proved it.
I'm just glad nothing bad happened.

Well, to bring everyone up to date there have been a few others that also have been in touch with this guy and now all have lost contact as a phone # he had used last week is no longer a good #. And to top it off his other Craigslist posts are now all removed as well so no one can get in touch with this guy. So I suppose it was to good to be true.
Did anyone else here happen to be in touch with him?
I would think that it would be a google voice number. and Besides it being most likely bullshit it could be that he sold all the stuff and lied too you about holding it.
But then again most likely bullshit
