I don't think Sega had anything to do with the RetroGen, but they did license the Gen Mobile.

I have one and other than the slightly wonky audio output I think it's a great portable. Crisp screen, 20 built in games, lightweight, TV out and good re-chargeable battery life.

Here's a thread on the Genmobile, which is pretty much the same thing except for the D-Pad:

Yes Sega did not make the RetroGen. The RetroGen is not even licensed by Sega. The GenMobile is the one licensed by Sega. However, they are both made by the same company, which is AtGames. Hyperkin distributes the GenMobile and Innex distributes the RetroGen.

The differences:

GenMobile has 20 built-in official Sega games
RetroGen has 12 terrible built-in games that you will never play

GenMobile d-pad is better, but still not great
RetroGen has a disk-like d-pad which is hard to use IMO

RetroGen has a slightly larger screen

Stay away from both. They are garbage. I had the GenMobile and sold it. I prefer my Nomad (especially with the new modern LCD screen installed by jonjandran)

You get what you pay for!

Unless you're going to play your games on mute, don't even bother with either of the two AtGames turds. They perform worse than unlicensed clones 'cause these Geniclones are based off a really badly-made Genesis emulator running on a Titan ARM core. The other unlicensed clones, on the other hand, use a GOAC, a real Genesis condensed into one chip, sometimes cutsom-made by the clone manufacturer or taken from TecToy in Brazil(some Geniclones contain a TecToy-580G GOAC, which is pretty much the equivalent to a real Genesis). Do yourself a favor and stay away from anything AtGames unless you want to play your games on the go with no sound.

Too bad this console feels so rushed.
It's like they released a Beta version. Not in the oven long enough.
Shame as most official genesis systems are getting pretty old now.

This company could have banked alot of cred with Genesis/ MD freaks like myself but they blew it. I'd have happily paid 20 to 30 dollars more for a better product.

Screen is nice, D pad and buttons are good, Rechargeable battery, TV out, I could live with the sound pitch being off, but the graphical glitches, game freezes and downright games that just won't load is brutal.

If sega isn't going to get back into current gen consoles, they could make some coin releasing a proper version of their classic console, but I imagine that ship sailed with The Genesis 3.

Modded PSP, Genesis emulator (I use Pico Drive) and you can play Genesis & Sega CD games. Looks great, sounds great (I have yet to notice any sound anomalies) and has excellent compatibility (runs everything I've thrown at it so far.)

The PSP's screen does the Genesis justice.

I have the GenMobile, it's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. They're so poorly made - the cartridges barely fit into them. Mine broke when I tried taking out the first cart I ever put in there. They obviously didn't get the measurements right. Terribly cheap build too, it looks and feels like something you'd buy at a dollar store. AVOID!

I too would rather have a real nomad!
