Because these crossover games are always button-bashers aimed at casual gamers. No depth. They haven't been designed for tournament play, hence why they rarely make it to the arcades.
Incorrect. They make it into arcades unless they're Marvel 3, because Japan doesn't care about Marvel. Versus series games are a bit mashier than Street Fighter or KOF, but they require a hell of a lot of skill and talent at competitive levels. Despite being a bit more accessible to casual players, they're still difficult to get good at. Show up to a tournament local to you and see how far you get mashing.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Marvel 2, Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2, these are all big arcade games. I would be surprised if SxT doesn't see an arcade release at some point.
The PS3 exclusive characters would be banned, Kupo, because not everyone will have a chance to play against them. The same thing happened with Kratos in MK9: you shouldn't be punished for not having a PS3. DLC characters are treated a little differently, because everyone on every system has the option to play them.
If shitty box art Mega Man and PacMan and the Infamous guy were to be released as DLC on 360, they'd be legal. But, since you absolutely need a PS3 to play them, they're not. So yeah.

MvC3 made it into the arcade. I saw a machine in Eugene, OR when I was on the west coast last summer. I've got a picture of it somewhere. Now if you're saying there's no arcade machines of it in Japan, I'd probably agree (if there is, it's probably tucked in the corner somewhere next to Fighter's History and Martial Champions).

That was a custom cabinet made by some guy: I'd you opened it up, there'd be a 360 or PS3 in there. There are a few similar cabs in fighting game arcades in California.
There is no, and never will be, an official Capcom released arcade machine for MVC3. Google it.

This could very well be what you say. That's as close as I got to it. I was too dumbfounded by the fact there was an actual open and operational arcade still in a mall! @_@

Yeah, that's a custom job. A really nice one, but still. You can tell because that is not a Viewlix cab, nor one of the clones, which are the cabs Capcom has been using for its fighting game releases(TvC and SFIV, anyway. SFIV is an X2 game, and TvC is some weird, one off Wii board: MVC3 is built on MT Framework, which is Capcom's 360 and PS3 engine. Not optimized for the standard arcade setups, e.e. Taito X2, Taito's new download enabled set up, etc.). I've seen SFIV in an Astro City cab, too, but that's just using the SFIV kit in a cab they already owned, and it ran in SD.
I miss arcades.
So how does this fit in with the new MS policy that all 3rd party releases that are simultaneous on other platforms must have exclusive 360 content?
PS3 buyers get 3 exclusive characters right off the bat, 360 gets... nothing?

The policy is that all third party releases that are simultaneously released have to either have the same amount or more content on the 360. Obviously, this policy is really only for smaller companies that either they're going to get bullied into having the same amount of content cross platform or not have their game released on the 360. It's a pretty douchebag move, but it's not as bad as what Nintendo did way back when.
Sony even requires the same thing, although only if it's not multiconsole originally. Sony has a policy that requires the game that is being ported over to have more content than the original release. They haven't required this for the HD ports, but I'm assuming because they have 16:9 and run 60fps.

Oh yeah. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVTdAOb54xI) You're totally right. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Scf_dkkq_Y) Marvel is totally a dumb mashing game. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_GFqRIU6Pg&feature=related)
So is TvC. Anyone can do this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsrWRENWZYg&feature=related)
Come on, mang. You're being willfully ignorant. TvC was an arcade game first, in Japan, and had a pretty good scene for a while. MvC2 failed as an arcade game over there, but it BLEW UP over here. Wong, Yipes, Viscant, Clockw0rk, Dark Prince, ShadyK, Dios-X, Mike Ross, Rockefeller, Chunksta, Duc, Sanford... These guys came up through arcade MvC2, and they're still great players today.
I don't care if you like the game - I don't though I like to watch it- but just because you don't like it or get it doesn't mean it isn't good.
Also, we'll see some great pro player matches regardless of an arcade release. 'Tis the era of the stream: Level Up, Cross Counter, Evo2K, etc.

OK, I'll admit that it does take skill to be good at all of those games. Shit does look pretty cool in the hands of people who know what they're doing.
I'm telling you though, TvC was not at all popular in the arcades!

Yes. But like I said, Sony's been handing out incentives to developers for PS3 exclusive content.
Dead Space Extraction HD for free with Dead Space 2
Saints Row 2 with Saints Row the Third
A Steam copy of Portal 2 with the PS3 version
Kratos in MK9
And so on.
It's money. Microsoft either didn't want to match Sony or didn't think it was worth it.

Isn't that the exact opposite of what's going on with this release?
Yes, but it's not set in stone. The policy is that way obviously so they can bully smaller developers who need the sales for the games they've developed. Larger publishers like Capcom, etc, probably just throw it back in Microsoft's face with "do you want the game to be a PS3 exclusive by sticking to that policy?"

Tekken X Street Fighter......hmmmm.....sounds perfect.....though VF would have also been nice....i was thinking how would they pair fighters from both SF and Tekken....tekken is more like wrestling whereas SF players have superpower but they pulled it off just fine......and the videos really look nice......its a must buy for me......

Jin, M Bison, Akuma, and Ogre were just confirmed.
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/feb/03/just-akuma-m-bison-jin-and-ogre-confirmed-street-fighter-x-tekken-move-sets-included/
I'm honestly pretty sick of Akuma, but he's such a fitting character to throw in when there's a chaotic storyline, so it makes sense to add him. I hate M. Bison because he's braindead to use in SSFIVAE but again, another important Capcom character so it makes sense.
On the other hand, Jin was pretty much a shoe in for this game, and I'm excited for that. I've always liked him and he'll definitely be someone I'll be experimenting with Day 1. Ogre, not so much :D

This is just lopsided shareware, really.
Instead of getting a sample of the game for free or very little money, and paying a normal price for the rest, you pay full retail for most of the game, and then you can buy the remaining content later.
It's a bit of a deceptive way to get more than regular retail price for a single game.
That being said, the amount of non-DLC content in this game is reasonable, and to me the location of the DLC data is irrelevant.

I had this pre-ordered and paid off, but refunded it and now I'm waiting to see the DLC shake-up come out in the open. I'm sick of the piecemeal approach. I can't support it anymore, even with a company I truly enjoy like Capcom.

Capcom admits DLC is on disc:
http://www.kotaku.com/5890630/capcom-says-on+disc-dlc-is-for-easy-compatibility-file-size?
By including these 12 characters on the disc, the idea was to ensure easy compatibility between players who do and do not choose to download the characters when they arrive as DLC. For example, not buying costumes in the Street Fighter IV series means you will not see the costumes when playing another person who did buy them; on-disc characters avoid this issue and allow everyone to participate in the update without additional patches or hiccups. The update also saves on file size - instead of a massive download, there will be a much smaller unlock that brings the new content to the surface.
This move also furthers our desire to avoid a "Super" version of the game down the road. Everything you need to enjoy this game for months (and years) to come will be accessed by the retail disc available this week. When the DLC update does come, it will inject new life and excitement into the game by unleashing 12 new fighters into the wild.
Bear in mind, it never says they'll charge for these characters, but I think we would all be in agreement that given their past and current history, there will likely be a price tag attached. Not purchasing regardless of whether or not they are priced or not now. I'm tired of this BS.
Wow, their PR spin on having a whopping 12 characters on the disk are some of the greatest examples of corporate excuse trite I've ever seen.
Low file size? Thanks for optimizing this is for players rocking 56k and having a 64m memory 360 memory card. Lord knows I hate those huge game updates since they're obviously required every single time you connect to go online. It's not like we live in a world where you download them once and your done.
The whole notion of "everything being on the disk" yet requiring DLC updates to work is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
And I know Capcom (or most everybody) couldn't give a shit less, but having 12 characters as DLC pretty much eliminates those 12 from being used in tournaments.

Well, THAT'S wildly untrue. It makes it a pain in the ass, but its still not as bad as unlocking everything in MVC 2 on Dreamcast. Players gonna play.
The character situation is frustrating for sure, and so are the gem packs. Unfortunately, the game is the best fighter Capcom's put out since Third Strike, so I can't get properly worked up about it. There's no overpowering comeback mechanic, the gems add a little bit of an edge without breaking the flow of the game, getting caught in a bad decision can REALLY hurt you, there's excellent character variety, and it has all the great replay channel stuff that they designed during the billion versions of SFIV.
Fighting games are my jam, though, so I'm willing to put up with a lot of garbage to play a game I like. That's just me, though.
Well, THAT'S wildly untrue.

Which game & what paid DLC characters are used in tournaments?
Jill and Shuma weren't banned for Vanilla Marvel, the DLC characters in MK9 are open game since Final Round and are ok for Evo this year(and were only off limits last year at Evo due to time constraints, see below), and Makoto, Valkynhane, and Platinum were DLC only in BlazBlue CSII and they were playable in majors from the get go. Console exclusives tend to get banned because not everyone has both consoles: ie, Kratos in MK9.
The biggest factor is simply time. If the DLC characters hit a week before a tournament, they might make the call that those characters are out of bounds, but that rarely happens: MK9 is the only example, and there were also some weird.issues with constant patching and so on. I imagine that the 12 DLC characters will unlock either right before or right after Evo this year. If its a month or more before, I'll bet money they're fair game. Remember that Evolution ran AE last year despite Americans only having the game for a couple months.
So here's the thing: I get why people are upset with on disc DLC, and I'm not happy about it either, but I have friends that buy a new Call of Duty every year, along with every map pack, the Elite membership, etc. I play fighting games competitively. I put in twenty hours a week, and run/play in tournaments every week too. I'm going to get my value out of the game and its expansion characters and gems. And if the scene dies out? Well, there's always SFIV, Persona 4 Fighter and Melty Blood.
Bottom line: not everyone is going to see the value in DLC characters for fighting games, and it makes my life harder too: beyond the extra cash, getting the DLC to run on five consoles every week sucks. But I'm going to suck it up and deal, because Capcom finally made a big boy game this generation and I love Street Fighter.

I'm a sucker for fighting games, but the 12 DLC characters within the disc is pretty lame. But of course, it doesn't stop me from playing the game. Capcom is pretty lame about this stuff though. My biggest gripe with Capcom is concerning SSFIV AE. Here's how I view it: SSFIV was pretty damn balanced IMO...arguably the most balanced out of the SFIV series, then AE shows up a couple months before Evo. AE was known to be quite dominated by Yun and Fei, and some characters like Ryu were nerfed hard. Evo rolls around and Fuudo, a Japanese Fei player, takes the tourny. At the same damn event, Ono announced they were patching the game, and AE 2012 came out late last year.
I think it's a shame that they couldn't playtest the game correctly before the biggest tournament of the year. I'm not a Ryu user, but I feel bad for someone like Alex Valle who has always used the character, and Capcom gives him the worst SFIV iteration of Ryu for Evo only to change him back to how he should be later in the year.
But aside from Capcom's questionable methods, how are you guys liking SFxT? I really like the game; it's pretty footsie heavy. I absolutely love my Cammy/Nina team that I've been excited to use since this game was announced. Nina hits like a truck, and Cammy's stand jab and ability to it confirm into ABC Launcher is phenomenal. Grapplers give my team the biggest trouble, but it's still a matter of getting used to people's moves.

I honestly think its the best fighting game Capcom has released since Third Strike. It's astonishingly good, and as much as I love Rolento and Hugo, what they did to translate the Tekken characters to 2D is brilliant and I'm having way too much fun with Raven and Heihatchi. Gems are dumb, but we've been running without them anyway since that's tournament standard.
Once Blanka comes out for real though, its all Rolento Blanka. Team Rolls Around-the-clock.

I agree for the most part; I do love how they presented this game. I didn't think the Tekken characters would translate too well, but Capcom really did do an excellent job with them.
I don't mind the gems being tournament banned due to the fact they would take forever to setup. Although if Capcom's tournament patch enabled a way for them to be easily accessed through USB or whatnot, I would be perfectly fine with that. I really like the dimension they add to the game. But like I said, it's not too big of a deal to me; I'm fine both ways. The game is too good not to play.
