Forget Tekken and whatever: this is where it's at. Assuming good netcode, anyway.
Ono suggests dropping by Capcom Unity and leaving suggestions for the developers, as development has just started. It's probably just dumb naive hope, but what I infer from that is:
1) It's not just a straight port of the DC version with netcode slapped in it, and
2) GGPO maybe?
Here's hoping I can drop some Aegis reflectors on dudes without worrying too much about lag, and also a return of 3S to Evo next year.

If XBL can handle MvC2, I don't see how the sam netcode wouldn't be able to handle SF3.
Sounds awesome. Day one.

3rd Strlke is not only my favorite SF entry, but my favorite fighting game period. It's the one fighter where I actually have a chance of winning a match. I never had the Xbox version before it went offline, so online should be interesting.

Blech. Hate 3rd Strike. Hate SF3 in general. Tried it, couldn't get into ANYTHING about the games. I'd much prefer a variety of other Capcom fighters brought to current-generation consoles with netcode to anything from that trashy series.

I'll bet you cash money that a version of CvS2 comes out next. That would tickle your fancy a bit more, good sir?
Even if you don't like to play 3S, you have to admit it's a lot of fun to watch. The only match videos on my hard drive since the advent of YouTube are the FFA 3S ranbtats and a few RX Urien matches. Third Strike is as close to a spectator sport as the Street Fighter series has ever gotten.

CvS2 would be alright, though it's kind of boring and slow paced. I'd put it over 3rd Strike though. Or Alpha 2 or 3... or hell, the earlier Marvel games, Vampire Savior...
Nothing fun about watching two Chun Li players fierce punch from across the screen to build meter :P But then, I think SF2. KOF, or Marvel 2 matches are really fun to watch, and certainly in the case of Marvel there's a lot of running away to build meter.

I concur with that sentiment.
I'm happy 3rd Strike is coming out, but A3 is my favorite fighting game period. They need to release this asap, with all the characters that were added to the portable versions; Maki, Ingrid, Eagle, etc.
To play a definitive version of A3 on a TV with an arcade stick would be awesome.
P.S. Is there a source for the announcement?

Agreed- Looking forward to this very much! 3rd Strike doesn't get the attention it deserves. The game is simply a masterpiece and the pinnacle of 2d fighters, IMO.

This is where SF lost me but I still liked it. It was more because I just wasn't too into gaming at that time and I didn't really learn any characters but it was a very underground type of game quite honestly and if you didn't get into it from the beginning, it was very discouraging to try to get into when people already mastered it, BUT that game IS a standard deserves to be brought through every generation of gaming much like Super SF Turbo.

I gave up on 3rd strike after spending too many matches just watching my character get juggled for twenty seconds at a time. For a lot of characters, one hit can lead to obnoxiously long combos or even infinites. It just isn't fun being completely helpless for half the match.
At least A3 has air recoveries and tech rolls to temper the juggle shenanigans.

CvS2 would be nice, but I'd like it to include a remix mode if possible. EO was kind of half assed, but there are definitely some things in that game worth tweaking, like the uselessness of P-groove and S-groove, craptacular character balancing, the overall slow pace of the game, roll cancels...
I mean I know they couldn't address all these things, but still. I'd like an effort. And if it still sucked, having the original arcade version online for the first time would be awesome.

I'm all for an arcade perfect port. CvS2 and Third Strike have never had such a thing. Honestly, that's all I want for 3SO: arcade perfect and good netcode.
Oh yeah: Unblockables. As in, they'd better be in there. I play Urien, and without the Aegis shenanigans, he's pretty worthless.

Third Strike, although not my first game to play from the all around volumes of Street Fighter, has had its reputation of both good and bad experiences. Now that I'm hearing that it will arrive via PSN and XBLA, it's going to re-enact how we used to play the game when it arrived 13 years ago thru arcade cabinets.
I had the experience of a lifetime once I went to EVO 2010 this year and saw tons of games shown in the big screen, but wasn't impressed when they took out 3S due to last year's commotions. This January, they had a podcast (A-ism) and the people who broadcasted it announced that although Melty
would take the final spot for the games in EVO, 3S would be a side game nonetheless. No tournament was announced for it and was warned it would
only be a casual sider throughout the entire EVO event. And lo, it was. About 3 TV's took up that game and although I had my casuals there, it felt that the respect of that game would never be the same.
How were they playing this? With none other than the PS2 version. I wouldn't have minded if someone used a Japanese arcade port to play it like the same most arcades in the Rising Sun would do, but who am I to be picky? I enjoy the game nonetheless, and I just can't wait to see it come by for either console.
Not to say that people haven't caught their licks. I still play 3S via GGPO (Handle: AntiShoto), and have shown people why playing mid tier characters (Alex, Remy, Necro, Hugo, Dudley, etc.) make this game possibly one of the finest Capcom has ever made thus far.
Anyone want to grab some matches, I'll be on GGPO for the time being until they bring it to the consoles.

I am willing to bet I've put more time into CvS2 over the years than you have (competitively and just dicking around,) and it is slow. A single match will take upwards of 7 minutes. How is that not slow? It's a very pokey game, very turtle friendly, very footsie oriented, without very many options for getting big damage outside of a custom combo or a level 2+ super. And considering normal attacks don't really do a great deal of damage to begin with against someone of the same or higher ratio, yeah, it takes forever to go through.
And the ratio system! Good idea, poor in practice. There's little strategic reason to not have 3 characters, and it almost always comes down to the ratio 2s. The entire fight up to that point is practically worthless beyond meter building given how much damage a ratio 2 can do to a ratio 1 in that game. If you move your ratio 2 to a different part of the fight, then you generally have them plowing through their ratio 1s, get beat by their ratio 2, and then try and whittle them down with your remaining ratio 1s.
So yeah. It's not a fast game to play.

You're probably going to want to acquiesce here, SA. Ubersaurus is a beast of the tournament player variety. One of Michigan's finest at CvS2. Chips ahoy, as Chauncy would say.

I can't wait for this to come out, I was unfortunate enough to get into Third Strike way later than everyone else did, so I'll definitely download this and play it hardcore. The one thing that kept me away from it was the characters, although I grew a liking to Remy in that game.

There's a variety of reasons; generally speaking the tournaments are on days I'm either working or have other plans already set. Alternately, just not having the money to come out and play. I do keep meaning to go out to one though; as I hear it my buddy Chad (ladymachine AKA avx) is a regular? Probably one of the best Alpha 3 and cvs2 players in the state. Plus, lately my crew's game rotation has become limited to super SF4 and sometimes the new Blazblue (until KOF13 drops and both games become dust magnets) so I could use some more variety.
I was never too hot at roll cancels, so I kind of get screwed by anyone who practiced those (which is like, three people in Michigan), but beyond that I'm a competent CVS2 player. I certainly enjoy playing it now, but I am so glad the days of needing an entire weekend just to run one 40+ player tournament are gone.

Fair enough. CVS2 still gets play in the A2 crew, though it's typically run round robin style: only Grego, AaronS, Rusty, 'Twan and a few others are still competitive. It's fun, though. It's a bit of a drive to the other side of the state, and most of us on the west side of the mitten have jobs, kids, etc., so we don't make it out there too often either. We have a solid crew of twenty five or so regulars over here, so it all works out.
If you ever get a Saturday off, and feel like a night of casual digital pugilism, let me know. Drinks and such are on us. I'll even keep Chauncy from screaming whenever you hit a button.

SO!
its arcade perfect, runs on GGPO, and isn't the deeply hated new type. Even better, it apparently has a deep training mode to help new players learn the systems.
I kinda wish it was on a disc, purely for tournament purposes, but otherwise it's the game I'm most looking forward to this year.

After watching Gootecks talk to a Capcom representative at E3 about this game, I really can't wait for it to come out. It has all sorts of features that all fighting games should have, such as being able to save matches on youtube and the training mode that allows you to start at a certain point in a combo, as opposed to doing it over and over again each time. It helps if you can do the first part of it right but just can't land the end of it.
Also, the challenges are pretty neat.

Pre-ordered on PSN a few weeks ago for the Gil bonus and free theme.
Overall very nice version of SF:III that's choc full of training trial and extra modes.
Though, in the online mode, while I was able to join all manner of game I couldn't seem to get anybody to wander in to my created lobby. I'm wondering if anybody else on PSN was able to start a player game lobby and with the system showing full NAT accessibility (green) and was able to get some opponents.
*EDIT* nevermind, I have yellow NAT status in the game's online mode. I tried opening all ports on my router to my PS3 but that didn't help. Must just be a matter of lack of speed on my internet connection. Oh well looks like I'll have to settle for joining other people's games.
I don't particularly mind joining other's rooms, but I like being able to host and kick cheap players and disconnectors out.
Also, I really really wish they wouldn't have gone with that damned song in the online lobby. Any time you're going to have a looping music track in an online lobby - developers should stay the hell away from anything short and with lyrics, aside from the fact that it's pretty terrible - after the song cycled through twice I was pretty much done hearing it forever.

I'd like to comment on the game but I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet. The PS3 made me download another worthless update...then made me install it...then Sony's "Clown Shoes" servers were bogged down with 10 people trying to download simultaneously. It was only at 28% after 10 minutes so I just said "fuck it (http://youtu.be/xkzwRkKFsjQ)" and went to bed. Boo-urns.

I don't think I'll get into this game as much as I did with AE/MvC3/MK, although I will try it. My brother is playing arcade mode right now, but as soon as he's done I'm going to check out the trials. I don't know who I'll use, although I'm leaning towards Yang. Or Q, since I won't be playing that seriously XD
From what I see, it seems to be a perfect port of the arcade version like all the reports indicated.

I was just about to buy this. I like 3S, but I said waitaminute, I already have this for Xbox and I can already play it on my MAME fighter cabinet, do I need to drop $15 on this?
I don't have Xbox live anymore, and don't plan to any time soon. Is there any significant difference between this and the old version as far as the one player experience? At least in the graphics, I read about it having a graphics filter for HDTVs but I wonder how it compares to plain old stretching. (I don't like 4/3 cropping on my HDTV as plasmas are more prone to burn in)
And the MS store has a "unlock DIPswitches" thing I can buy for $1.00, and I said "I thought CPS3 boards didn't have DIPswitches." Anyone know what it does?

If you're happy with the versions you've got and don't plan on playing online then it's fine to skip on this one if you want. Not much change in single player from the AC version, just some new combo trials and some remixed music.
Main reasons of this release was online (since OG XBox games can't be played online anymore) and also that it's the first arcade perfect console port of the game.

Tried it out last night, and enjoyed doing some of the trials. Even though I don't know a lot about this game, I decided to take it online with Q just to entertain my brother. Didn't work out too well XD But I still had a ton of fun playing. It's just cool playing a different fighting game. I started using Yun and Ken, and actually started winning. Some guy tried to chip me by throwing a fireball on my wakeup, so I parried it, and was able to get in for the victory. As bad as I am at parrying stuff in that game, that seriously got me super hyped XD I'm sure this happens all the time among veteran 3S players, but for me, it was really cool.
I might spend some time with it just so I can be somewhat competent in it. I had a lot of fun with it!

Yes, they need to patch that out. Once the countdown starts you should not be able to hit X/A and drop out of the match, it totally borks the lobby.

Played a lot online last night.
I really like the caliber of player online ... I was expecting the entire online portion of the game to be filled with tournament grade players within a week of the game dropping, but I guess it's a testament to how few people really played SFIII competitively since it originally came out...or how the game's systems makes it possible to swing a comeback late in the match.
Unlike SSFIV and MvsC3 I found myself winning and doing well on a pretty consistent basis.
Also, I will confirm that it's 100% less annoying sitting in the player match lobby once you've changed the background music to a song from one of the stages and turned off the default new rap song.

it's the first arcade perfect console port of the game.
I'm far from an expert in these things, but the music isn't "arcade perfect" in that it changes with each round (like the Dreamcast version). The PS2/Xbox version (from SF Anniversary) had the music playing uninterrupted between rounds...which I thought was how the arcade version was. Not a big deal (or any deal really). Having a lot of fun with this one so far.

I wonder how they are at 3s; back when I went to Wizzards I never really paid attention to the 3rd Strike players due to the fact that I never really cared. Nevertheless I got the impression that even the crappiest Wizzards regular at that game could stomp people from other arcades.
A friend of mine got the game, so I may check it out on his system, but as far as I'm concerned the Dreamcast and Xbox versions are good enough for now. Maybe I'll worry about the 360 one down the line when it's on sale.

Antwan is probably the best player in Michigan when it comes to Third Strike; he took first at Power Glove this Friday with Dudley. Grego's really good too, but I haven't seen him out in a while.
I couldn't even get Wolfkrone to play it. I'm guessing this is because it isn't Street Fighter IV. :( I was going to try and get him into a set at my place, but the post-tournament casuals went on at the venue until almost 5 AM. We got home and everyone just crashed.
You should come out to the next one, Uber. I know this was very short notice, but we're throwing another one in a few months and it'll be on the weekend this time. KoFXIII will be there! We've got place for you and a couple friends to crash too, if you don't want to drive home the same night.

There are a quite a few online fighting games that have "spectator view". It's not the standard by any means but it's not new.
Off the top of my head ... Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Street Fighter HD Remix, Super Street Fighter IV (even the 3DS version has it) and Soul Calibur IV all have it, I'm sure there are others too.

I love Spectator Mode in fighting games. I hate waiting for my match and not having anything to watch. Another reason I can't wait for UMvC3 to come out...other than them fixing all the horribleness in it. XD

Any chance of alpha 2 online? How about merging the third strike people with alpha 2? I am having a blast.
