I just got a Genesis model 2 and Sega CD from someone on freecycle. The Genesis will not turn on at all even when disconnected from the Sega CD. The power supply is good. I opened up the console and resoldered the posts for the power supply connector in case the joints were broken. The console still wont turn on. Is there any internal fuse or other common component that I should check/test on the board? I'm not sure if the Sega CD works yet and not sure how to test it since I dont have any other consoles to test it with.

I know the Sega CD and Genesis 2 have AC Adapters with opposite polarity so hopefully one wasn't used to power the other and vice versa.

Since you resoldered the power supply posts, I'm out of ideas. That was the trick to fixing my friend's Genny 2.

I have a slight variation of this I have one that will turn on. Completely clean I don't see any Faults and it just wont boot any games but the screen changes color frames though.
I got two consoles and one didn't work which was a bummer but i Didn't care too much because i still had one
{might be willing to send for shipping just as parts if you really want it}

Thats Totally Bunk though that you just bought one and got screwed. Feels bad man

Hope you can figure out your problem. I love the Genesis. Wish I could of had one as a Kid.

Maybe the power switch is defective.

I can go to Radio Shack and pick up a new 7805 regulator and see if that works. They're only a buck or so anyway no big loss there, its worth a shot.

I replaced the 7805 regulator and it powers up. Thanks izarate
