It's a secret to everybody; except to those who actually read the instruction manual.:)

Only way I could actually get far :)

I always knew. My friends and I would always take turns to control the duck, and make it so the shooter didn't hit the duck. Fun times.

It's the only other way to play besides holding the gun up to the screen and then swearing like a drunk Scotsman when you miss a duck even though the gun is mere nanometers away from the screen. LOL

Also, men need no manuals. That's why Home Improvement for SNES had no manual- not because it sucked, because it was a MAN GAME. /sarcasm

You read the instruction manuals? Real men don't read instructions until there's no other choice. LOL

I never knew the ducks were controllable. You learn something new every day.

I didn't read the manual, so I didn't know the ducks were controllable at first. But I think it only lasted a few days, when I jokingly tried to control the ducks and they followed my command!

I had no idea you could do this! Never tried. And I never had any trouble with my gun, maybe I just have a good gun.

I didn't know this either. Weird.

Count me in the 'knew it' and the 'read the manual' category. Though I didn't remember it actually being in the manual, I just thought it was something everyone knew...everyone on here anyways. Who knew? ;)

Now if someone had said that you COULD shoot the dog, well...then you might have something there.

I knew it, but I never tried it. I always played the game by myself so I just focused on shooting the gun.

I've always known you could do this. It's especially fun when your friend is drunk and playing it, and you are hiding the 2nd player controller behind your back or something. :wink 2:

For some reason I'm surprised how many people didn't know you could do this. I found this out like the first time I played, and my friend kept moving the ducks. Bastard.

I knew it. I first tried it when a babysitter was over watching me and my sister and the sitter would get soooo mad she couldnt hit the ducks. :-D

I knew this pretty early on back then.. But I honestly can't remember if I read it in the manual or a friend told me. My poor memory..

Coming from someone who had Duck Hunt as one of my first NES games...I had no idea. I feel ashamed.

This. Duck Hunt, I believe, was the first videogame I ever played (certainly the first I owned) some 24 years ago. Never knew this either. I won't believe it till I go try it.

Which would require setting up the NES.

Which I am too lazy to do right now.

Maybe tomorrow.

I had no idea this was possible. Hell I have had a NES since release and had never heard of this.

Of course I just casually mentioned this to my girlfriend and she knew you could control them... Damn girlfriends holdin' back secrets.

I had no idea, this is amazing.

Edit: Sheesh - this is much harder now.

I may be remembering things incorrectly, but I believe in VS. Duck Hunt, you actually can shoot the dog in the bonus round. I seem to remember him having a cast on his arm when you hit him, and you lose your bonus. However, it's been years since I played it, so I may be confused. I should load it up in mame to verify.

Also, you guys know that you can only control the duck in the "1Duck" mode in the home version, right? It won't work in 2 Duck mode.

Specifically the what the hell part lol

We should have a thread on old school tips ,tricks and out of place stuff that most people must of overlooked.

Huh, I did not know about this. This is probably because I just got that game from a thrift store a year or so ago without a manual.

I thik I knew this at one time but since forgot and now am being re-reminded. At first this sounded like "whoa really?" and then people started talking about being dicks to your friends with it and somehow that part sounded familiar.

Also, you can shoot the dog in VS. Duck Hunt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0mx9dO3BxI

I had NO idea you could do this...and I've been playing Duck Hunt...since it came out? Yeesh.

I also never noticed that the clouds were identical to the bushes in SMB 1. *sniff*

Apparently I'm one of those people that just goes through life completely ignorant with not a care in the world. I'm trading in my collection for a hula hoop now dammit.

I remember doing this as a kid, but forgot about it. its the second controller that controlls the duck right?

I'm not sure where I learned about this, maybe from a friend. I think someone just did it one day while a bunch of people were playing Duck Hunt.

Duck Hunt was my third video game and I learned how to control the ducks without a manual on my own just by experimenting. I was 6 when I had it. In addition to the fact that you can control the ducks with the player 2 controller, this only works in 1 Duck mode. If you try to control the ducks in 2 Ducks mode, nothing happens.

I don't know how, seeing as the zapper goes in port 2. LOL

Here's a scan from the manual for anyone interested. Just this brief mention of it is pretty much all there was is in the manual so I guess I can see how people missed it.

Wrong year but the words "RISE TO YUOR GWAVE" spring into my mind.

I'm surprised they didn't follow up with a "Nintendo Fish In A Barrel" and "Dynamite Pond" double-header cartridge.
