Can we get a list going of games that feature multiple generations of playable characters?

For example, in Record of Agarest War there are definite breaks where your main character picks a wife and then later on you play as their son. This reminded me of Dragon Quest V, which reminded me of Phantasy Star III.

More examples! Bass and Tina Armstrong in Dead or Alive, which is a fighting game. John and Jack in Red Dead Redemption, which is a third-person moseying game.

I'm sure it would be easy to pick out the RPG and SRPG games. What about FPS, fighting, racing, wrestling, third-person shooting games (etc.) that feature two or more blood-related characters you can play as in the same game? Even if it's for one mission or level.

Several of the Fire Emblems have them and in the 4th one it's a fairly important gimmick.

Chrono Trigger: Marle is a descendent of Ayla (very distantly admittedly)
Harvest Moon ToH: You can start over as your 'son'.
Super Monkey Ball: AiAi - Baby

First thing that came to my mind was King's Quest. First few games you play as Graham. You find a wife, have kids, and then in the later games you're playing as the kids all grown up.

I see you already mentioned Dragon Quest V, which is another that I thought of.

Probably the best example though is SaGa Frontier 2, whose storyline crosses like 100 years, through multiple generations. Over the course of the RPG, almost all the characters from the beginning chapters die of old age, except for one who gets really freaking old. And the last party leader you have is his granddaughter.

Legacy of the Wizard. Father, mother, sister, brother, and pet (with bonus non-playable grandparents).

I think your extra lives in Tail of the Sun are your descendants.

Shadow Hearts - It's the connection between that first game and the game before it, Koudelka.

There are also tons of games that feature siblings.

Yeah. RPGs there are a ton.

Tactics Ogre (Denim/Kachua, though not blood related. Orias/Debordas, Shelley/Sisteena/Selye/Olivia, Oz/Ozma.)
Suikoden (Meg/Juppo, Sheena/Eileen/Lepant.)
Suikoden 2 (Hero/Nanami)
Suikoden 3 (Lucia/Lulu, Chris/Jimba)
Suikoden 5 (Hero/Sialeeds)
Final Fantasy 5(Cara/Galuf)
Grandia (Justin/Sue)

I could think of more, but these ones quickly came to mind.

Plok! (SNES) - you play as Plok's grandpa for quite a few levels early in the game.
