View Full Version : Sega CD (Model 2) Won't Power On

So I picked up a Sega Genesis (model 1) and a Sega CD (model 2) cheaply on craigslist. The Genesis powers on but the Sega CD seems dead. I'm using the correct Genesis Model 1 AC adapters on both models. Even tried it with a Genesis Model 2. The Sega CD even has the metal plate between the systems.

I was thinking maybe something inside may be loose or maybe needed replacement like a fuse? I am not familiar with it too well, but the AC jack doesn't seem to be loose. The red 'access' light doesn't even blink.

Any help would be great, I'd love to get this working so I can give it back to my friend supergoldzero.

Thanks! :)

sega cds are notorious about blowing an internal fuse due to using the improper power adaptors. i dont know exactly where it is but in all likelyhood someone used a genny 2 psu on it and blew the fuse. easy to fix with some quick souldering.

I would say that's it's a 99% chance that the fuse is blown. They are very easy to replace if you have very basic soldering skills. Where the fuse is at depends on what motherboard the sega cd model 2 has. One motherboard has the fuse on top of the board, the other one has it on the bottom of the board, and it is surface mounted. Here's a video of somebody replacing the the fuse on top of the board:
